Considering moving to Leeds?

My wife chose a house she likes and it's located in Gipton. What is this area like ? , my main concerns are that I want an area that is safe for my children , also good schooling for them.A good pub club might be nice too LOL ;)

Many thanks for the replies so far , it is exactly what I wanted to hear/read . The wife is adamant to move there and I dont want to.I see a aplit up here as she will NOT see sense.Hotheaded and "jump straight in with both feet" are perfect descriptions ! ... I can see where this is going to lead ! Divorce !

Not a good area.
I lived in Gipton and lasted no longer than 6 months.

I really do not recommend you move to Gipton, the area is NOT safe for children, and the education is bad.
There is a lot of council houses which equals, crime and anti-social behaviour.
Like I said, I have lived in Gipton, my home was burgled 4 times in 6 months, my car windows were broken twice, tyres slashed and anything left in the garden was robbed.
Maybe I wasn't ''hard'' enough?

However, there is some very good areas in Leeds:
Colton
West Park - although it is a mix of council + private houses.
Temple Newsam - my favourite area in Leeds, it is neighbour to Halton Moor, but there is some really nice houses close to the Temple Newsam House - which has a farm and makes a nice day out, with large fields suitable for games with the children, dog walking, running, family picnics etc.
Moor Grange - Lots of private houses. I think there is block of council housing.
Kirkstall - But it is becoming increasingly popular for students.
Roundhay.

Edit:
Just saw your edit. Don't let Gipton ruin your marriage!!!!
If she still wants to move there, despite reading answers on here, take her up there, if you feel brave, walk around a few streets in Gipton. I'm guessing you haven't seen the house yet, book an appointment to go see it and browse the local area whilst your there.
Up the road from Lidl, there is 5 flat blocks, then a little further up there is a pub and a few shops - people have been stabbed in the pub ( Mainly because of gangs and drugs ) and there is always yobs hanging outside the shop, let her see for herself it is NOT a good area for children, depending what age your kids are, a lot get mugged in the area, the schools are no better. I'm sure your wife won't want her, you or her children to be growing up in the environment.
Check out some houses in the areas in Leeds I have mentioned,

Hope you get a house in a DECENT area!

Go to Gildersome or Morley!
Buth brilliant for kids, schools and pubs!

Joking aren't you??!! Gipton is practically the worst part of Leeds, dont live there unless you want your house burgled and your car torched. I live in Leeds and the best parts are Roundhay Alwoodley Moortown and Headingley

gipton is not the best of areas, try rounday, just up the road, far far better
