Why is the castle in kent called LEEDS castle when its no where near leeds? The name Leeds originates from the name of a chief minister of King Ethelbert IV ( 856-860) called Ledian ( it is not associated with the city of Leeds! ) The Saxon manor of Esledes was an ideal place for the descendant of one of William the Conqueror鈥檚 lords, Robert de Crevecoeur, to fortify and build a castle in 1119. Thers a place in Maidstone District of Kent called Leeds as well as the one in Yorkshire. i think the builder got lost.lol lol^^^^^^^^^^^^ it was a present from the leeds people . they took it down brick by brick and rebuilt it. |
