Royal Armouries is free,
If the weather is fine Roundhay park is quite nice. You have to pay to go into the butterfly house but the actual park is free. There is a playground near the lake.
Kirkstall Abbey is a nice place to have a wander around.
Think Lotherton Hall bird garden is free, but would check that out before you set off.
