Should I stay or should I go???

Please guys, I need your point of view. I might be getting a job offer in Saudi Arabia. I'm 24, got an ok job here, and love to travel and experience new things. I would prefer to go to the Emirates, and I guess the only attractive things are the money and leaving the political misery of my beloved country for a certain period of time (please don't hate me for that one). Plus, there, I have a smaller opportunity of meeting my future Lebanese husband :P
Should I leave??? Should I stay??? Any suggestions?

Jojo, if you were a couple I would be encouraging you to try it.
But life for a single girl in KSA is not easy.

It is a very isolated life, most lebanese women there are married which is going to make it harder for you to socialize and therefore reduce your chances of meeting potential husbands.

Of course there are other factors that we don't know that you should consider:
1-Your personality, are you an introvert who can be happy by yourself with a good book or an extrovert who needs company ?

2- How independent are you? Can you adapt to the restrictions imposed on women there or is it going to frustrate you that you can't just hop in your car and go to the supermarket if you run out of milk?

3- your financial situation: how badly do you need the money, it might be worth the sacrifice for a couple of years and part of a bigger plan for your future.

As for the political situation, it breaks my heart to see all these young people forced to leave one after the other, but I also understand, I am in no position to ask you to stay, I left myself.

If you go, try not to burn any bridges behind you, for example if you can take a 3 months leave from work to secure that you still have a job to come back to if things don't work out.

no you shouldn't go, you should stay.

Your heart has already answered your question. Congratulation.!!! This is an opportunity you can not refuse even when the fear of the unknown exist.
Till we hear from you again. Best wishes!!!!

i know i left .. it's for my better future .. maybe you should too .. but of course UAE is much better to live in than KSA (Esp. for a girl) .. but in KSA u can save more money ..

Edit : MNG is right ... happened to my cousin (he's a guy and lasted for a while but then he just gave up and came back to Beirut) ... as well as many people i know ...

DON'T GO TO KSA .. Honey i will be very honest with you although i might get alot of thumbs down =( My freind's father bought a cat because he went crazy! You're guna feel alone & tired! My freind used to call my other frnds there crying just to take him out! He had an excellent job with a gr8 wasta he lasted less than a month. It's harder for girls to go there alone! sweety go to Dubai, Emirates or many others. Believe me it's not a peice of cake living there! You're talking about restrictions & a girl alone in a very close country. None of the people i know have gone & survived ! They traded the money they got for a less payable job with more dignity & a better life! Many countries in the Middle east. Try any, just not this one. Trust me or remember my words when u get lonely ='( sorry but i'm just being honest =) Hope u'd trust me on this one! Let us know what it's guna be! good luck

:) I would not go to saudi being a woman really its not safe.. If I were you Iwould wait for a better opportunity maybe in the emerates like you are wanting. Also about marrying a lebanese man... they all live abroad anyways so you have a better chance of finding a good one outside of lebanon :)

edit: AA you always have the best answers :) Im a fan :)

if i were u i would go and experience a new and different way of living i know some guys here are saying u wont be ok in saudi but it's not isreal it's an arabic country and u can go there ok the socila life there and way of living is difficult but u said u want travel and experince new things so go just for a try dont leave ur actual job take a vacance from it and go experience the enw job and new life maybe from there u can go to Emarate OMG ! it's my dream
me too i wonna change and experience a new life descover things im not living have different chances improuve my carreer

it has nothing to do with ur love to ur country patriority is everywhere
me too i wonna travel and leave my country not coz i dont love but coz i wonna have a better chances a brillant futur i may not have it staying in my country

stay

Personally I would not go to KSA as a lone female..I'm not sure how safe it will be for you.

I wanted to say to you please dont go..theres no amount of money that will help a persons self esteem and confidence. Stay were you are or if you really need to try another country that is more humain. I keep hearing these stories, like the one I posted. My husband went and worked in Saudi for a while and he hated it for the way people are showing that they are so religious but the manners and practices say other wise. I remember he got so fed up when he was staying there, he called me for 7 hours on the phone and got a massive bill. I wouldnt ever advise anyone to go there..ever..by the way my hubby didnt make money, infact he had a massive debt that he had to pay before he could leave the country.

Manpower Agency Pays Compensation for Maid鈥檚 Death
Mohammed Rasooldeen, Arab News

RIYADH, 7 February 2008 鈥?A diamond necklace worth SR4,000 and SR3,500 in cash is part of the compensation that will be given to a Sri Lankan woman whose daughter starved to death in October 2005 while working as a maid in the Kingdom.

Al-Nashwan Recruiting Company in Riyadh handed over the compensation to W.S.M.S. Wijesundera, charge d鈥檃ffaires at the Sri Lankan Embassy, yesterday. The money and jewelry will reportedly be sent to the maid鈥檚 mother, Ratnaseeli, to help the maid鈥檚 impoverished family in Gonapola, a remote village in the Kalutara district of Sri Lanka.

Vasanthi came to the Kingdom in October 2000 and died five years later from complications attributed to malnutrition, according to an autopsy.

It was discovered that the maid had not received her salary for the period of her work and compensation for the unpaid labor alone would amount to SR24,000.

The maid鈥檚 sponsor, whose name was not provided to Arab News, was arrested along with his wife shortly after the cause of death was discovered and after the Sri Lankan Foreign Ministry complained to Saudi authorities.

The husband was later released in an attempt to obtain compensation from him.

鈥淟ater the police released the woman too since she was proved insolvent,鈥?Wijesundera said.

The maid鈥檚 body lingered in Saudi Arabia for more than a year because nobody would pay the cost of having it repatriated to Sri Lanka.

鈥淔inally, the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) paid SR7,000 to send her body home,鈥?the diplomat said.

The 28-year-old woman had come to the Kingdom to help pay for her brother鈥檚 heart surgery. 鈥淪he was not given her salary for five years and she was not even fed properly,鈥?Wijesundera told Arab News.

The diplomat said that nonpayment of salaries is a common complaint and the mission does not know the volume of cases in the Kingdom.

鈥淲e only take action against the reported cases,鈥?he said, adding that the embassy intends to soon establish new regulations to monitor the sponsors of Sri Lankan workers to ensure that they are paid on time.

鈥淲e will also consider the financial status of the local sponsor when we attest visas for domestic workers,鈥?he said.

Im sorry it was a long post but i wanted you to know this story from a couple of days ago.. Dont go...

go! you should be going forward not staying where you are. you should take advantage of any new opportunity. good opportunities only happen once.
carpe diem my friend.
dont drop ancer here, go and explore the world. it doesnt meen you forgot about your country and you family and friend... you're just living your life, you shouldnt feel guilty.

good luck with whatever decision you make.

Leave. YOu dont seem to have much of a reason to stay.

You have nothing to lose and everything to gain.

The old saying that the grass looks greener on the other side of the fence is so true...

I have no first hand knowledge of these things & being a westerner my perspective is different anyway but your friends here have given you sound advice.

To go to a strange country alone with no support network & a different social structure doesn't seem like a good choice to me. Money isn't everything.

iIf you feel that you need to spread your wings why not try Dubai where at least there is a large Lebanese population & not so many restrictions..

Think it through & best of luck..

Personally I would go. nothing is easy in life. you will have some difficulty of not being able to socialize but it will be much easier to apply and move to other Gulf countries. Good luck.

What do YOU think ???? for me, i suggest you go...

good luck!!!

I think you should go,

don't worry about the Lebanese husband

I'm Lebanese, born in Lebanon and married to an Irish man

My daughter speaks arabic, we eat the food and the arabic music is always on.

Love live Lebanon!!!

UAE is better many times than KSA......... But Don't Forget Lebanon.......

well if it's to Saudi Arabia, i advice u to stay in Leb cause there is no life there so it's so boring.. u will suffer
