Can you help me ??

I'm forced to serve one year in the Egyptian army as a solider , while I don't like it and I don't respect the army , I can't think of any good outcome or any good benefit that I may gain there , can you show me another aspect of the dark situation .

One whole year? all boys? no girls to flirt with?

I understand that you may be apprehensive but embrace it and make the most of it: the negative might be the waste of time but the positives are there if you consider it as a long camping trip with the boys.
I know you will remember all your life this experience and the camaraderie with the others. so take your precious books, can you sneak in the computer? roll your sleeves up and go for it.
Maybe it will finally make a man out of you.lol.

i know its hard to do something when you dont want to do it. When u dont have a choice, accept it by seeing the positive side of it, as in your case you should be proud to serve your country, you will get more disciplined, more focussed and intelligent.

war is such an important topic that it cannot be left in the hands of soldiers

Sorry to hear that news..I hope you are OK, I honestly don't know the benefits but I'm sure some with army experience will help.

When are you supposed to start the one year?

@ Muslim, why should a person be forced to do anything they don't want to do, particularly taking a year out of their life..? its their life.. not for others to decide what to do with it..., its nothing to do with the country or not, its to do with someone having the option/choice to use their brain and skills for what it is meant for...its about being part of a productive society.. A person can get closer to god any place there is no limits..

at least , since u will be away from many worldly things , u will have much more time to think about ur life , get nearer to God , will have experience with type of ppl......etc.

at least u will have it for one year , many other than u , will have 3 years so thank God for that..

and u know what , although me too i feel rebellious fro many things in here but it have hurt me that u don't respect the army!

I wish i could help you, but try to stay positive and as the saying goes, (elly te7'af menno), maybe you will benefit by this experience in some unknown way, if not, then thank God it is just one year, and u can catch up on reading those beloved novels you love to read, in yr spare time.

Anyway, the only thing i can offer is my prayers that Allah swt, does what's best for you. You ll be in our thoughts and our prayers ISA.

Hasa , I did 6 years mate & it wasn't all bad ! It'll give you a different outlook on life & who knows , you may like it!

well, you just have to go that way, so it's a very good start thinking of the positives..
first, you will have good trainings and will learn to be tougher and more built. you will learn how to live in groups and with minimum primary things (in case u were castaway, u might need some of these "skills"). you will learn to be always alert (or so u r supposed tobe taught) and u will be a good member of the army institution, helpful to the country, and u will learn how to use weapons (be careful there)..
PS: weapons are nice to use but not when u aim on a living thing, dangerous, but u'll enjoy aiming and hitting, I know I do.. good luck there.. and if u make it easy it will be =)

i had to serve in the army back in 2004,, but i made a wasta so i skipped it

well you will be able to experience their culture and their food
( don't know if that will be good ) but it is always something you can think about other than the negative feelings you have for them

Once it ends, you'll feel good for having served your country.

free food and board, no need to pay for a haircut, ha ha

well if you dont agree with something dont do it.. its always good to stand up for what you believe in. Personally I feel war is wrong and would go to prison before I would train or fight in a war of any kind :)

since u r forced. there isnt too much that you can do.
So..take it easy, and try to get from a negative thing as serving in the army....something usefull and possitive.
They wont send you with a weapon, bcoz u can be more useful for them as a doctor.
So, it can be good for ur career and will make good practice.

haha we used to have this in leb for 6months but they canceld it. I dont think u ll gain any significant benifits that will realy give you an advantage over those who never went to the army + there is no YA! there, infact .. an egyptian friend of mine told me stories of humilation egyptian soldier go through which leave scars on those soldiers lifes that are realy hard to heal, he also described it as a humilating degrading experience, he also said its realy strict and a soldier can be refferd to a military court were convicted soldiers can be sentenced for years in jail for simple mistakes. I think its realy uselus for the country and waste of years for poor guys like you especialy as the country is in a state of peace. The lebanese one is alot easier and less strict + we have a cooler looking uniform :P . i would immigrate if i was you, ure welcomed to Lebanon if u want.

Hassenfeffer, being part rabbit, and part eye doctor, you can benefit the army by providing quality vision care to other soldiers. That is not only benefit to your fellow military personnel, but also to those who defend and protect Egypt, and using your God given gifts. Three positives!

All I can say is you will gain some tolerance for things you do not like. You may meet some people who are professionals like yourself, and make some good friends.
When I am forced into a situation that I do not like, I keep my self going by telling myself "OK, one more day has passed, and I am one day closer to finishing than I was yesterday."
It must be hard, and I all I can do is empathize for your situation. The Egyptian Army reminds me of college hazing... something you just have to bear if you want to make it through! Just try to be strong and stick through it. Any cliche is not going to cover the dread you feel, but jump into it and look for the light at the end of the tunnel. You are now one day closer to finishing Hasafer.....

Hasafer bibi I understand your dilemma.Tell them you want to further your studies in Australia and get the hell out there as soon as possible!!

We come across situations in life, (as yours) where we hate to do things which are forced on us but ultimately the situation is a boon in disguise which we fail to identify as we have the curtain of resistance thrown over our ability to see beyond the situation, we whimper, cry and react to it.

I feel if you relax and try to enjoy the situation i am sure you will come back and tell us that it really was a boon for you.

Yes the Egyptian army is cruel and useless. I, although I'm a woman, eally hate it and have heard horrible stuff abt it. I really do not understand what's the use of it. It makes no difference whatsoever and if there is an experience that u gain, it sure not a good one. It will just make u hate the Egyptian government and system more. Sorry wish I cud help, but I really feel bad for u :( All I can do is pray for u and pray that time passes by fast and that u wont face any problems or complications from the sick loser in charge there. good luck dear and always look at the bright side :)

I honestly don't know what to tell you that will make you feel better about this situation. Just remember that you were afraid you would have to spend three years as an officer, and how happy you were when you found out it turned out to be only one year as a soldier. So it could have been worse. Think of that as a positive thing. You can also make use of that period of time away from the YA addiction (though you will be greatly missed here) and continue with your studies. From what I understand that Kanski book is huge! You might not believe this, and as cliche as it may sound, but I actually think that sometimes experiencing something we don't really like makes us appreciate what we do like more ... I already hear you saying bla bla bla! hehehe So I won't say anymore about this point. And though this may seem unlikely to you, you might actually meet some people there that you may like and make new friends. Sharing daily life with people for a year can bring you closer and make you some new friends. If all this does not work for you, just try to think of this year as a step you must take to reach your dreams that are postponed, an obstacle to overcome ... and I know that you are not a quitter and will not go down without a fight so show them what you are made of soldier! I am so sorry, Hasafer. That's all I can think to say. The army has been calling my house for a while now. Hitting an all time high this week with 3 calls. I have continually told them I don't want to join the army but they don't seem to listen...anyway, back to you. The discipline though hard, can only help, and just think of all those different people you will meet. Will you be able to travel? And in what postition do they want you to serve?

I think that's a great idea! I think serving your country for one year is ideal for any child! If your butts not in college or some trade school, then it should be off to the Army for you! That's what kids need now a days.. A good kick in the rear.. to learn some core values like integrity, respect and what it means to be a leader and succeed in life!

you have to serve that year, it's your duty for carrying the nationality of the country you're living in...whether you like it or not you owe your country at least one year of your life
