Why are most jokes made our of blondes and show that they are naive??

The blonde stereotype has changed dramatically over the centuries, and the latest incarnation is the "stupid" image. The short answer to your question would be that it's a combination of historical stereotype, bad press, and human nature. The long answer is more interesting.

Let's start with history. Blonde hair is a recessive trait, and therefore somewhat rarer than brown or black hair. That has traditionally made it desirable. A quick perusal of art verifies this. Browse a book of Renaissance art, and count the blondes. You'll see a good number of blondes, even coming from the Mediterranean, where most people have darker skin and hair. For that matter, check out all the reference to golden-haired Greek and Roman deities. The locals of both those areas tend to be beautifully olive-skinned and brunette, with blondes showing only very rarely.

Whenever someone has the good fortune to be favored by society purely because of how they were born, those not so favored are likely to resent them. Especially over time. By the mid-nineteenth century, blondes were considered seductive, conniving, sinful, and evil. Short stories and novels--and especially the three-volume wonders so enjoyed by young women of the time--often pitted a virtuous young brunette against a wicked, deceitful blonde. (The opposite of what we often see on television today!) This stereotype held for a few years, until bleaching came into vogue.

Suddenly, brunettes had the world of blondness opened to them, and, like magic, the evil blonde image vanished. Blondes were considered cute and innocent. (Remember all those pixie-like platinum blonde silent movie stars?) In those early days of hair dying, bleaching your hair blonde was much trickier than it is today. Ingredients were often expensive, and they are pretty volatile. Add too much peroxide, for example, and you risk burning your scalp (or ending up bald). Usually, the very-fair, bottle blondes, then, were the women who could afford it. Being a bottle-blonde marked you as, well, if not exactly wealthy, at least well-off enough that you could buy such luxuries. Blondeness became associated with wealth and social status.

By the mid-twentieth century, dyeing your hair was much cheaper, but the image of blondes as rare and desirable still held sway. Blondes (including bottle-blondes) were often seen as social climbers, cashing in on their wholesome attractiveness to join the socialite sect and raise their status. The party circuit became populated with fair-haired beauties. (Blondes have more fun, after all!) These party-girls often made their money and their reputations as trophy wives or by upgrading lovers. Rumors abounded, and blondes became seen as women who sleep their way to the top. The implication, then is that not only are blondes "loose," but their good looks are all they have available to them. They can't work their way to the top by virtue of their minds (and therefore, their minds aren't all that great). The fact that so many of the wealthy, happy-go-lucky uppercrust were blondes only added to the virulence of such stereotypes by adding an element of jealousy. All of this was cemented and spread by blonde jokes, which prey on these feelings to spread an image of blondes as stupid, vapid, and slutty. Certain famous (or infamous?) blonde celebrities have also contributed, most recently, dippy blondes like Jessica Simpson and Anna Nicole Smith.

There you have it. Blondes are seen as stupid because of reaction against the old image of blonde as beautiful, class jealousy, their image of being sexual promiscuous, and the contributions of the rich, famous, and airheaded.

Because of the sterotype perpetuated by the entertainment industry. Blondes are portrayed as being less intelligent. Plus many blonde celebrities perpetuate it themselves. Take Paris Hilton or Anna Nicole Smith.

Probably because blondes tend to attract more male attention (according to the biological interest of men toward blonde, big busomed women who are more fertile). Blondes probably are more likely distracted by men and spend less time studying and focusing on education. Attractive blondes more or less can get through life with men paying for them and not worry about their own career (major generalism). Whereas non-blondes don't tend to get as much male attention so they focus more on their education.

I don't know. But the one that me and her decided, once upon a time, to get married (but I suspect she now tries to reconcile with the father of her brat) is indeed a blond dumb.

i think the reason is that they r so kind smoth & sensative that they believe watever the others tell them. so the others r making jokes of them.

Since the 40's or so, platinium blonde hair became a sign of youth and sexuality. Women who didn't have the smarts or personality to compete for men in normal ways, learned that men were attracted to the blonde hair and image, and so rather than develop their own strengths, they turned to the perioxide bottle. They found that they didn't have to try as hard academically for men because they could just be a 'dumb blonde' and they were still desirable.

Most 'blondes' aren't true blondes. Hair darkens as we age, so that's why you see very few towheaded adults, though they may have had white-blonde hair as babies.

My hair is honey blonde. I am often looked at as a 'dumb' blonde, though I have neither the sexy image or good looks. Because I have neither, I had to develop other traits, like intelligence and personality.

because we are stereotyped in that way but its not only blondes that get stick, red haired people get it a far lot more , my daughter (is only a child) has beautiful light red hair ,she hates it but i say one day you will love it because its makes you stand out from a crowd ... and that's what makes her special

Maybe because there were in all kind of beauty contest and when they needed to answer a question they were dumb. Maybe i don't know.

they act dumb or people consider them dumber because they are dumb. they think because they are blonde's and that they should or can do whatever they want and they won't have to pay the sequence because of they beauty and the publicity attention like they want to act cute because they are hot or people consider them hot to me well blonde's are hot but they behind education if you ask me, no offense. red hot are more attractive then blonde's because every girl want to be blonde's and beside the research servey said that they are more Blonde's in porn industry. so to me that mean blonde's girls are stupid, dumb and idiots to be doing porn or that dirty trash stuffs.but they are sexy and hot.

Not all blonds are dumb, this one was smart :
This blonde wants to make some money to dye her hair black so she goes to one of the rich neighborhoods. She rings the door bell and say, "Hi, is there anything I could do for your house or you???"
The man thinks and says, "Sure, you can paint my porch. You will find all the stuff in the garage."
The girl says, "O.K., How much will you pay me?"
The man says, "How about 200 bucks?"
She quickly agrees and gets straight to work. The wife who had heard the conversation inside says, "200 bucks, I hope she knows the porch goes all around the house!"
25 minutes later the girl knocks on the door and says, "O.K. I am done. Can I have my money now?"

If you look at the older movie stars , the blonde ones were usually dumb..take Marilyn Monroe as an example ! That's where it all started & it hasn't changed much if you look at the current crop of blonde celebrities..eg Paris Hilton , Britney what's her face !

Having said that , she who must be obeyed is ...er a blonde ..ahem , allbeit out of a bottle ! Say no more !

It's a very weak stereotype that just doesn't hold true. I am blonde, as are my 2 daughters. We have had to fight this unfair generalization throughout our lives. We are all college educated and have professional jobs. We are natural blondes as we are of Northern European/ Scandinavian decent. People who think this is true are often shocked when we speak. People who are prejudiced are the ones who are dumb.

Only want to add that I was born blond... and changed naturally to brunette, never having used hair dye and I think we can all be naive sometimes, just happens that the poor blondes got famous for it first, as Angelo said, probably because they were not so common so they attracted more attention to themselves. Personally, I think that the bleached ones are worse ... could it be due to the bleaching products they use??? I麓ve met some dark haired ones that scared me by their stupidity too ... so?

A little Post Script here:
Our own daughter, who is a natural blonde (dirt blond they call it) , but dies her hair light blond for show purposes has been stricken with that prejudice too (towards others though) ... When she was here for the holidays and her dad did or said silly things, she kept saying: "Dad, stop being so blond!"

to make the rest feel more important since blonds are the most wanted :P
