How to Propose Marriage - Help!?

I am planning on proposing marriage to my love, who is a beautiful Lebanese American woman. She and I are both Christian, but her mother is Muslim (her father has passed away). I would like to discuss the matter with her mother first, to obtain her blessing, out of respect. I am confident she will approve, as we have a very good relationship. Are there any special customs or prayers that I should include, or what would be traditional for approaching the bride's family with a proposal for marriage? I love her family, and I would like to do this in a way that would be respectful. Thanks!!

Yes it sounds very sweet of you to include the mother, after all when you and your love marry will the mother be left alone? Or live with you 2 perhaps? I'm sure in either case the mother will feel like she is gaining a son. Then I think maybe a romantic dinner for two, the engagement ring in the champagne glass, go by how you feel , don't think about it so much. Cheers and Congratulations.

That is soooo romantic!!!! And you are such a gentleman for asking the mother for your lady's hand!!!! I know nothing I just said helped....but congradulations and best to you both!!!

You are one sweet guy.well i always thoght that was the hard part on being a guy.
You should tell her how you feel and then go on some Orthodox sites they contain information like what kind of prayers to use and stuff.Aslk for the blessing from her Mom and say whatever will happen i will always love her.Make her understand you.

my mom is lebanese american also and proposing is the same just talk to her mom about it and ask if she would like any special prayers in the ceramoney

trust me, don't get married, it will only make things worse!

my opinion, no need to thumbs down!

go to her family ohhhhhhhhh wait can u invite them all and propose to her in front of them all in a small party that will be remembered for ever i mean invite what they are important not all the family some thing simple and not expensive you will need money for the marriage ; ) bend on your knees and ask her u know something romantic
congratulation and good luck

Good on you love her madly, you are doing the right thing. and it doesn't matter how you do it, as long as you do.

There are no special customs I know of,except for the fact of obtaining her approval first " I would like your blessing" as you say above is great.
You come from a different culture and I'm sure the mother will understand any faux pas. The main thing is that you have shown respect for our traditions and this is sure to earn you an honourable place in the family.
