My boyfriend and I are planning to spend about 4-5 days in Las Vegas in a year or two. We hope to stay at a nice hotel (maybe Luxor or Bellagio), but not super expensive (like the Wynn), stuff ourselves in buffets, gamble, see 1 or 2 shows, etc.
Is there anything then I DEFINITELY must see or do there? Anything to completely avoid? And about how much money should we save? Advice would be appreciated :) Sharing your experiences would be great too! If you plan well ahead to avoid weekends, special events and conventions you will save a fortune.

Sign up for and use slot club cards if you gamble. There is no such thing as "I don't play enough" - Learn how to take advantage of those cards!! We spent 55 nighs in LV last year and we spent $314(total) on hotel rooms. Plus they paid for most of our meals. No we are not high rollers, we play nickel/dime/quarter video poker almost exclusively.

Utilize student discount programs if they are an option. Avoid public transportation. Instead have plenty of bottled water and wear comfortable walking shoes. There is plenty to do there, decide amongst yourselves what you really desire. Then consult the staff at your hotel and they will guide you from there. Trust me! If you desire it, Vegas can give it to you. Aloha from Hilo, Hawaii
I have been to Vegas several times...spread apart in years...I am not one of those "frequent" visitors to Vegas...Hawaii people spends a lot and lots of time in Vegas.....thousands go every week...every day are charter flights that go and come back...every single day! Hawaii people love to gamble...99% stay in the ...downtown area....they all stay at the Boyd Gaming properties...California---Mainstreet--an... Freemont....why? Cause Hawaii locals prefer to be like at home in their own "community" spaces....so since many Hawaii people go there...those hotels caters to us....by giving lots of perks free....like rooms next time...meals etc.
I cannot advise you how to gamble or what to see...I am a senior citizen...but I like to be around younger people cause they interest me so much...older people are like "stuck" inside a dismal bubble...I can advise you however, before you even begin your travels to Vegas...you should put your mind into what I call...the "lucky mode"....it means you must have a sincere attitude of the positives....I believe that to have good luck...you must "feel" lucky....so you have to put your mind into a positive mode before you even board a plane....I advised friends to do this...
Say, you are at your airport...maybe LAX...you and your friend are waiting in the boarding area....observe people's behaviors...kids are playing around...some are reading or looks like they are...some might be snoozing but they are not...some are talking ...but not really saying nothing....everyone is in an anxiety mode...to ride a plane...to wait and wait....so their minds are like empty...stalling...waiting....waiting for what? For you...to come say "hello...my name is.......this is my friend........and so you begin a positive connection....you already took the initiative to make a connecting positive....right?
Say, your flight is delayed....everyone will moan and groan...but not you...stay in positive mode...might be they have to check out something for ...your safety? As you are inflight...notice someone near you who might be sad or worried about something....ask the person..."if you need to chat...I am here....my name is.........."
It's all about taking the first step ..first in life.....you cannot wait for "luck" to come visit you....you have to create a path...that lead directly ....to you.
Please try this...doesn't cost anything.....have nothing to lose but time on your hands?
I am here if you need more questions answered...I too will be going to Vegas on March 15, 2008....my son, who will be age 25 on the 16th will join me from Vancouver, B.C....we have not seen one another for over yrs now...he is a comuter programmer...first career job.
I am a retired retail business asst. mgr. for a large chain in Hawaii...I do people's yardwork for spare time and monies...my passion is to write...any subject, to anyone interested...I have nothing to hide....nothing to brag about but I enjoy life as it is...we make our own life's worth.

Hilo, Hawaii my boyfriend and i went there last year and had so much fun, we stayed at the luxor, it was pretty and cheap!! one thing you gotta remember is you wont be in your room much, and checking out other hotels during the day.One show you HAVE to see is "o" best show we have ever seen and "ka" is right up there with it. we it comes to saving money it all depends if your going to gamble, theres so many things just to look at to and not spend money!! oh stay away from the people who ask if you want free buffets or show tickets, it is to attend a seminar for timeshare, we did it and got to go to the stratus fear, but big waste of time!!! have fun and if you gamble try that positive thinking thing thats what it is all about!!! have fun There are so many answers to what you can see or do that what you should DEFINITELY see or do is all up to personal taste.
Everybody gave you several sees and dos, I think you should make your own list by doing online searches. Search keywords like Vegas and fun, "things to do", recommend etc. and a bunch of things will come up. Since you are doing it in a year or two you have the time to research it, visit the websites of the various casinos and see what they have going on there.
What do I like?
Downtown: The Fremont Street Experience.
The Wynn: just looking around, it's beautiful.
The Venetian: Madame Tussauds Wax Museum. The Canal Shoppes.
Mandalay Bay: Red Square Bar.
Bellagio: their garden, the dancing fountains, O.
The Rio: The Masquerade Show. The view from the Voodoo Lounge Bar at night, you see the whole strip.
MGM Grand: the lions.
The Mirage: the white tigers.
No bears, oh my! my boyfriend and I just came back from Vegas and we stayed at the strip one night and the silverton the last 3 nights. Highly recommend the silverton. We already booked a room there for next yr. It has everything 10 min to the strip if that. Luxor is pretty well priced, however Bellagio tends to be on the expensive side. Paris is right across the street from the Bellagio and some of my family has stayed there and said it is great. .
As for buffets, that's usually all I ever go to when I'm there! You have to try:
Cravings at the Mirage
Dishes at TI
the one at Mandalay Bay(not sure what its called)
and the one at Harrah's has an AWESOME breakfast buffet! it's got to be my favorite!
The only 2 shows I've seen in Vegas are Sigfreid & Roy and Mystere. They were both great. I've heard that S&R will be performing at the Wynn next new year's eve , so maybe by the time you go they will have a show again. Also, my mom saw LOVE at the Mirage last time she was there and she loved it.
In my opinion, things you need to do include:
seeing the Secret Garden at the Mirage(I'm very fond of the Mirage if you haven't noticed!)
See the volcano at the Mirage
see the dancing waters at Bellagio.
walk around the forum shops at Caesar's and see one of the talking statue shows.
walk around the grand canal shops at the Venetian.
DO NOT:
go to Circus Circus. To me it's really trashy there and a total waste of time. |
