Hill with a silver cross on trip between LA and Las Vegas? |
I recently took the Luxbus between LA and Las Vegas and the guide told us that off to the side of the road there was a hill that a famous actress in a plane had crashed into and her lover/husband had erected a huge silver cross in her memory which has since fallen over out of view. Does anyone know more details of this story??? Would love to know more. I have forgotten the details of what the hostess said. Oh and where exactly is it??? I think that he was referring to the plane crash on Mount Potosi, just outside of Las Vegas (see wikipedia link). A TWA DC-3 smacked into the side of the mountain in 1942. Carole Lombard, Clark Gable's wife, was amoung those who were on board. I don't remember hearing about a silver cross, though. There is a plaque near the crash site (see link below). I think it may be a tribute to Carole Lombard, fiance of Clark Gable at the time of her death. I remember hearing a story about the tribute but can't remember much about it...sorry |
