A foreigner in S.Korea needs Drivers License, any help?

I have been thinking of getting a license here but i don't know what it takes.I have my license from home and wish to get a Korean one now.

Please what is DMV and MPH measurement. Can you simplify these terms.Actually I am ready to take the test anytime by all cost.i also live in Korea now.

Bring your license to your local DMV. Depending on which country you are from you may have to take a written test in which you will have to score a 60% on. The cost of it will be between 20 and 30,000 won. You have to get your home countries license translated legally into Korean. Just bring it to a local translator. You will have to take an eyesight test.

I got my license in 2004, and I'm from America. At that time I had to show my translated American license and take the written test. They have license study books in English at your DMV for 10,000 won. I would recommend buying on of these and studying it for a week or two. The license test is more difficult if you are from a country which uses MPH, and other ways of measurement.

Talk with someone you work with that speaks Korean and see if you can get them to go with you. I lived in Seoul for ten years. For the first year or so I used an International License which you can get for 10 bucks at any AAA.
I got my Korean license in '96. The fee was small, I don't remember exactly how much, but you also have to purchase the picture for your license. And I only had to take a quick vision and hearing test. No writen test was necessary at the time. This is why I suggest bringing a Korean friend. My friend was kinda angry that I didn't have to take a test, he failed his twice, but he got over it. This may have changed, but as the Korean DMV is a typical Government building and there are not a lot of english signs it will be easier with a Native speaker.

James is right

dmv is department of motor vehicles, he means the government office that handles drivers licensing

mph is miles per hour

the only other thing is that when you bring your foreign license, they keep it until you leave the country. that part stinks.

although it's slower, it's much easier and cheaper to get the international license from AAA. check their website for more details
