Korean License in Japan?

I'm an American living in South Korea. Can I use my South Korean driver's license to rent a car in Japan? I don't have an international license.

No, but you can apply for a Korean International drivers license. It cost me 10,000 won 3 years ago. I believe you may have to have an F2 visa to get this.

No compatible. You need to bring both International and domestic license.
And Japan is left-side traffic (steering wheel is on the right seat) like Singapore and London.

You can also get an International Driver Permit through AAA. All of the application information is on the web.
Watch out for people selling International Drivers Licenses in the States... those are fake. It may be a play on words between Permit and License, but it an important distinction. Also, you cannot use the permit in the country where it is issued, so as an American getting one from AAA is a good idea.
