How did Korea change after the 1988 Olympics were held in Seoul?

In my opionion the two biggest changes were:

1) the world had a better understanding of Korea
2) Korea opened up to foreigners

I was stationed over there during those games. The Koreans did an outstanding job in preparing for the games. It was a very pretty sight from the air. The games did opened the doors to a rush of tourist. Korea is a very pretty country
