What do you think is he trying to do?

i have a student who flirts with me by phone but he tells me he is getting married and his gf is jealous of me becoz he keeps on talking about me when he's with her. I told him i can be his friend, but how can that be? when his gf is jealous of me. I told him to assure his gf that we are just friends. I haven't even met him in person. I teach students online. We are of the same age. Do you think he's just trying to use me to make his gf jealous? for what reason?

I have to disagree with you about that one Ginny Jin. He thinks he's an expert on everything in this section. He's also threatened by Korean men, thinks he's one hotshot compared to them, so he will never have anything good to say.

sOs, I think it's best for you to you keep the teacher-student relationship tightly knot. If he isn't willing to respect your position, whether he's being truthful or not, then he doesn't deserve to be taught by you anymore. good luck.

My opinion for what's worth is that you should try and maintain a professional student teacher relationship,and you should take the responsibility in avoiding leading him on in anyway. It is possible that because he has never met you, he feels more comfortable behaving like this and overstep the mark.

I don't think he is deliberately trying to make her jealous, some people just are flirts (if it wasn't with you maybe it would be someone else) and don't consider their partner's feelings. But that's not your problem, but for him and his girlfriend to discuss before they get married.

It sounds like he is kind, sweet and honest to you. Well, most Korean men are.

I do not think he is just trying to use you to make his gf jealous. I think he is genuinely having fun with you. Usually Korean men in Korea do not get chance to talk to anyone from overseas. There are not many chances to make friends from overseas. That is probably why he finds the English lessons with you more interesting. Not only that but also I think he finds you very different from his gf or other Korean girls and this is what interests him. You said the guy is going to marry his gf. Especially, when a guy thinks to himself that his life is all planned out to be an ordinary one, they tend to fall for something more extraordinary, a new relationship with a person who has totally different backgrounds. Sounds interesting to find out who the person is right? Also, having a conversation and flirting with someone online or on the phone gives much less guilty feeling compared to meeting them for drinking, watching a movie together, going out for dinner, flirting with each other face to face. I think for many reasons, he likes talking to you so he flirts with you. He does not want to make his gf jealous but he does not want to stop talking to you either and he just can't stop talking about you in front of his gf. I think he does not know why yet.

Or maybe he just likes you because he just likes you but he probably does not know where this genuine affection comes from. When he realizes that he likes talking to you better than meeting his gf, he will know that he is falling for you. The question is "do you also like him as a friend and a person or you want him to be someone more meaningful in your life?"

Stop contacting him at all. Break off any sort of relationship with him, personal or professional.
He is a child. Despite your being the same age you are not the same maturity. You have to take into account that Koreans are generally about 5 years behind Westerners in maturity because they are highly shielded by their parents.
And Koreans in love do ridiculous things. Last December a Korean guy attacked two ROK Marines, killing one, because he wanted to make a girl that had jilted him feel bad that she had caused such a downward spiral.
