Hangul Day?

hi. what do koreans do to celebrate hangul day? coz i can't find any info on the web about what they do to celebrate it. thanks:)

Think of Hnagul day as a day for focused activity for school kids. They get special projects related to hangul and there are essay contests all over the country. They are quite a few for foreigners as well.
Although it is a Nationally proclaimed day, it is on the level of Arbor day in the US. It is not a red day.

I was born and lived in Korea for 20 years.

At home, I have never done anything to celebrate Hangul Day. If I ever did anything, that was probably because I was forced to do some reading or writing by my teacher during my primary school days.

Hangul Day is recognized but generally not celebrated. It's not a national public holiday, so really it's just business as usual for Koreans.

Just to clarify, Hangul Day IS a nationally recognized day (October 9th), although you do go to school / work and everything.

As for the question, Koreans do not do anything special to celebrate it, but sort of reminisce how King Sejong had invented Hangul, a very simple, phonetic language, replacing the complicated Chinese characters, so that even commoners could read and write.

They do have a lot of TV documentaries about Hangul, or essay/poetry writing contests, or a lot of schools go to historical museums on that day though.
