I taught in S. Korea. Has any one else had this experience?

Yes, I have also taught English here in Korea.

A few months ago I was teaching pre- and elementary-aged schoolchildren at the Church my wife and I attend.

It can be surprising at how well the kids can understand you; you must speak slow enough with correct pronunciation so that they will understand you.

A really big item an instructor must impress upon Korean people when teaching English is that -

It's okay to make mistakes.

Asian people, with a sense of "losing face" (embarrassment) for making mistakes, tend to avoid answering you.

Heaps of praise for the young kids makes them open up more, thus more willing to answer your questions and try learning, without fear of "losing face" in front of other kids and foreigners.

Yes, it's great teaching in Korea.

Yes, but no Hagwons here. I never reccomended them either. If you ever want to teach there again go for the large companies and teach business English. I bagged 50,000 won per hour with my own contract with them.

i indeed did have this experience. i know you didn't ask how it was but honestly it was absolutely terrible. all the AZNs kept leaving the classroom to go on smoke breaks. and it wasnt just one or two. it was the entire class leaving at the same time. maybe its because i am a drivers training teacher....
