Should Korea be reunified?

i think those angry koreans should unite their country. It doesn't make sense to me that the same people have a divided country. What do you think?

Your question is a lot more complex than you would imagine.

Yes, there are "angry Koreans" here in South Korea; mostly, they are college-aged students blaming the United States for the continual separation of both Koreas.

These college-aged students never lived through the occupation of Korea by Japan, nor lived through the Korean War.

Simply - they have no concept of what it would be like to live through another Korean Civil War.

Other "angry Koreans" are the older generation who lived through the Korean War; They are "angry" because the college-aged students speak in a thoroughly stupid, idiotic manner.

These "angry" older generation Korean people definitely value the American presence here, deterring what would become a Communist country through a costly war that would devastate both Koreas.

Years ago I found a Russian Author named Andrei Lankov; he previously studied for a year at Kim, Il-Sung University.

Andrei Lankov definitely writes "like it is" about North Korea, without looking through "rose-colored glasses."

I have provided a link for you below; this Author Andrei Lankov brings-up many valid points about what would happen if and when both Koreas are reunited.

I hope you will take a few moments to read thoroughly what Andrei Lankov writes about. He might possibly alter your perception about North Korea.

The fourth paragraph, second sentence, will certainly "slam-bash" your way of thinking; this comes from the Koreans themselves!!

I am also one of the many people who believe and hope both Koreas will eventually be reunited. But, at what cost??

Definately yes, we should unite our country but NO we are not angry. It will take time and great effort from both Koreas to unite their countries into one... not a simple easy task.

I think you should read up on the evil people who are running North Korea at the moment... you can't reunite Korea until these rulers are gone.

NO! We are rich, they are poor.

i really wanted that to happen but easy said.
no compromise no reunified,
but one day it will happen and i believe it

Most definitively...

Can you just imagine the possibilities of Korea? I mean, just look at South Korea back 50 years ago. It was basically in rumbles after the war and was the agricultural state of the two and 52 years later became the 10th richest country in the world, 1st world country, and an economy booming in the trillionth. Just imagine how strong of a nation South Korea and North Korea would be if they combined raw natural resources from the North and high technology from South...They could easily take over Japan for the second richest Asian country in Asia.

Yes they should. Communism is evil .

Korea has to be reunified. Not sure if they should be called 'angry Koreans', but I agree that it doesn't make sense for people of the same origin to be divided as a country.

I have a strong opinion on that question. First of all, I read a article saying for reunification it costs about W8,000,000,000,000(about 13times more of bill gates's). Who are you gonna pay for this? Goverment works for reunification because our grandparents's families are still separated in here and there. However, will it be as necessary as now when they are gone someday? No..many people including myself don't think North Korea as same country. We are very different from each other in most ways. Apperance, languages are not very same, cultural differences, food we eat, nothing's same at all. Because we haven't shared what we were supposed to do if reunification is pursued. They are just like any other foreign countries to me and I believe that this is how/why all the countries have become the countries of their own after all. People in Japan, Korea and China look a lot similar therefore we used to be together in the past I guess, therefore got to be the same country as that thought is applied? No..As a reflection the following new government has seriously considered removing of department of the reunification since they feel the unnecessity. But for some reason they didn't.

I totally agree with what Living in Korea answered. For a timeframe---it's not going to happen in my lifetime.

No, at least now right now.
It'll be disastrous if we unified right now. Think about it, even though we speak the same language (to a certain extent) we're almost different races.
I can't imagine what the people of North Korea would think after they see that their country/leader is not what they imagined.
Yes, it'll be good if Korea could unite someday, but I don't see it happening anytime soon.

They should
but they will never be together i think.
