Bus Drivers and Irresponsible Driving Habits?

I have been previously told that Bus Drivers here in Korea are ranked among the worst drivers because the Bus company they work for sets an unrealistic amount of complete 鈥渃ircuits鈥?(complete start to finish of bus routes) the Driver must accomplish within their shift, or the Driver risks getting fired.

Can anybody here in South Korea confirm this, or provide a knowledgeable answer?

I was told this when I first moved to Korea, but one of the teachers at Seoul Foreign School also said that this pressure to go fast changed when the bus companies expanded routes around 2001.

You are absolutely right. Bus drivers in Korea I want to kill them sometimes as well as taxi drivers. They are enemy to each other. I saw them yelling at each other many times. Anyway, yes there is a certain number of circuits they have to finish a day. but ever since the system was organized by former mayor I dont see that crazy bus driver anymore. There is a screen device in driver's seat telling how far he is from the earlier one. For example, it says 10minutes distanced from ealier one all he needs to do then is to keep that time as he was trained. So basically there is no right for driver to decide its speed.

I live in Jeonju and can attest to horrid driving habits by both city & private bus drivers as well as cabbies. Absolutely horrendous. Running red lights, right turn from left lanes, left turns from right lanes, you name it. I actually heard that when Korean cabbies or bus drivers go on strike, they don't walk of the job-they obey traffic laws!

well if you didnt "see" that coming then you must need your "eyes" checked..........usually bus drivers need to see where they are going and i hear sometimes that is a problem in AZN countries.
