Does anyone know an American who has married a Korean and gone on to live in Korea??

My boyfriend is native born Korean. I am a American. We have been dating for a little over a year and have considered the thought of me moving to Korea to get married.
Does anyone know an American who has married a Korean and gone on to live in Korea??
Is there some place I can go for advice on the kind of adjustments an American would make living in Korea??

I was more wondering what you thought of us being able to live there as a successful married couple.

Well, I know a few couples in real life.
So far, they are happy couples with love and sharing!
But they are all American/Canadian males(husbands) and Korean females(wives).
I've never seen the other way around yet.

Anyway, men are teaching English(ESL) here at Korean public schools or universities. Some of them are working for EBS(Educational Broadcasting System) to do voice acting and being on the shows as native English speakers.

You can still hold your US citizenship living in Korea although renewing your visa status every 2 years can be a hassle.

If you truly love each other, and if you are willing to accept new culture, you'll live happily ever after with your Korean boyfriend.

No i dont know.
But korea is the best place ever.
I wish i can go there again!

I don't know anyone personally but there are bunch of Americans live in Korea, as well as whole lot of non-Americans live in Korea. Wherever you'll live, you'll be able to find someone, and get help.
Actually I don't think there are organizations giving help and advise to "married-to-Korean, help-me" kind of thing, but a few places will give you tips on how to start living in Korea(and you're advantaged to have a native Korean in your family!)
As a general rule, you can contact American Embassy for a lot of practical information you need to get initial help. Visit that place several times and ask people around, if you are lucky you'll be introduced someone who can be a friend or adviser.

I don't know your history, but if it is your first time moving to another country it can be scary thing - to everyone. I'm a native Korean, and when I first moved to America life was scary. My advise to you is to be actively involved in the social life and watch a lot of TV. One thing to keep in mind is that Koreans generally have strong bondage between family members and circle of friends. Be nice to your in-laws and friends of your bf. As time goes by you'll do great!

I think theres about 1+ million non Koreans living in Korea and about 3+ million non Japanese living in Japan. These were the stats I saw in 06, so by now...the population of foreigners probably grown a bit more.

Although both countries are strict about permanent residence/citizenship for foreigners, there are still ways to live there. You could get a working permit from Korea or a temporary yearly stay (which my aunt did) as long as you're paying for housing and utilities for Korean homes.

there's a lot of good advice here...the ones that I have seen succeed usually have other reasons to like Korea besides their spouse and they speak Korean--that is..they would want to live there anyway because of work or personal curiosity..etc. Speaking Korean will make your life so much better

No.
Usually they marry a Korean and go to the U.S.

I am married to a Korean, and we spent our first 3 years together in Korea. The divorce rate among foreign people and Koreans is 82% now. My wife and I got the hell out of there to save our marriage. There were many obvious reasons why. By the way if you have no Bachleors degree you cannot legally teach English anywhere. Immigration inspects schools once a year usually in March for illegal teachers. Korea also has no social security or pension benefits for foreign people. The only time you would get those things would be for a one year contract with a school. You'd never qualify for a credit card either, unless your husband makes good money and cosigns for you.
