How do you feel about the younger generation Koreans that pretend they are asleep to avoid giving up their....

seats in the bus or on the subway to elderly people?

I'm sure some people outside of Korea will claim that this doesn't happen, but rest assured that it does everyday.

I guess my answer will show my age, but honestly, it makes me ill. (in any country) I have lived in Japan and Korea for many years, and believe me, this is a Korean specialty.
i don't want to dive into the psychology of it, but I have always thought it was because the korean culture surged ahead so dramatically, giving this generation no time to expeerience/appreciate what their elders sacrificed. I sometimes think the younger ones sitting down are embarassed by the old ways of the elderly.
but whatever the reason, i see it EVERYday in Seoul. (coming from a public transportation slave)

Well that's young people behaving like, er, young people. World over.

Clever, but not so clever..
That happens where I live too. I frequently ride the bus and subway to school, and that is not a distant sight. I find it st*pid that some people pretend they're deeply asleep and even start snoring a little, then most of them invade other passengers' spaces.. Anyway, I don't feel that is a pretty sight and other people should give those youngsters the 'eye.'

I disagree that it is young people acting like young people. It is a symptom of the start of the breakdown of Korean society as a whole. It used to be that even with the Korean attitude of a stranger being a non-human the Confucian ideals would take over and kids would get up. Not so these days. Now the youngest that I see getting up is late twenties.
But, as my future ex pointed out, it happens all the time in the States too. Unfortunately Korea has imported a little too much culture from the US.

Sometimes..they actually are asleep. Shocking, I know. But when you are studying 18 hours a day to pass ridiculously important but annoying exams, that's what happens.
