How much / what percentage of the cost does Korea pay to keep the American army in Korea?

Many Koreans tell me that they pay for everything to keep the US soldiers in their country, but I think that the Americans must be paying for the cost of equipment, salaries, rent etc...

S. Korea pays approx 40% of total operating cost. Japan pays approx 55% of the US cost. Currently the US is negotiating to increase the share that SKorea should pay.
Thailand and Philippines are negotiating to have the us return for about 15% of cost.

Korea , in the past , could not pay for what it cost the US Military to be there for one day . I doubt it is paying anything . It may well be that the US is paying them , as they certainly do in Germany

Not as much as they should.

They paid $710 million dollars in 2005, less than 50% of total costs.
Also in the SOFA agreement there are some pretty messed up things about how many Koreans must be hired, what it takes to fire a bad worker, etc. (It is sad to go to an on-post restaurant where the service is lousy and then have a waitress demand a tip. I have gone to many places off-post where the waitress was on top of everything and we couldn't force a tip on the waitress.)

They are also paying for some of the move, but I don't know how much. Again I suspect it is not as much as they should.
