To expats who are currently residing in Korea...?

To expats who are currently residing in Korea BUT say bad things about Korea constantly,

If you don't like Korea, why are you still living there?

There are a lot of things you don't like about Korea as you have been talking about those on Yahoo! Answers, but why are you still there then?

Isn't it better for you to go back to your country rather than reside in Korea since you are not really fond of this country?

To V-man, I am not Gaya. You were wrong.

its human nature. no human is satisfied with life.

Says it all?

This response says nothing at all. Choose any response below; they are much better than a "no response" type response. Report It

For a reasonably sensible question, the asker chose a really senseless answer.

Said all? Just how did "all" get addressed? Report It

Unfortunately, I did not have time for answering this question.

By the Best Answer choice, I am happy I didn't waste my time giving common-sense responses; a no common-sense answer was instead chosen. Report It

Expats that don't like living in Korea leave unless they can't because of a military obligation.

Anywhere people live there will be some good and bad. In this forum, you are allowed to give your opinions: both good and bad. If people say bad things that are truthful about Korea, what's the problem?

I love living in Korea and have many great memories.... but not everything has been wonderful.

ps: how many accounts do you have now including this one Gaya?

edit: yes, you are. It's obvious. A better bluff would have been, "What are you talking about?" or no response at all.

It is the same as an older brother constantly picking on a younger brother. You do it because you can, but if someone else did it would start a fight.

So much about Korea sucks... like the plumbing.

Hmmm... that is a very interesting question that I am sure deals with a lot of fancy psychology words.

The bottom line is a sense of entitlement. I have been here living with these people for the past several years. If anyone can truly criticize them, I am one of them. Why? Because I bring an outsider's educated opinion to the situation. I don't say things like "that sucks", I explain the issue and why it is bad.
Except for when I say things just to get the thumbs down. I like seeing thin skinned people get their panties in a knot. (Bobby, write v-man to ask what that means, not me.)
Think about it like an author having their book edited before being published or a research team publishing their findings in order to have it peer reviewed. To truly see flaws it takes an outsider.
Interestingly enough, you could ask a very similar question of many Americans living in America.

I am an America Patriot (not ex-Pat!!) who is also currently living in South Korea.

From reading your question, and reading current and previous answers people give on Yahoo Answers in the Korean section, I believe you make the mistake of 鈥渞eading into the answers鈥?that people give, thereby completely misinterpreting how they answer.

Just because somebody doesn鈥檛 like an issue about South Korea, this doesn鈥檛 mean they 鈥渄on鈥檛 like鈥?living in South Korea.

Let me give you a couple examples -

1) I am allergic to Cucumbers. Does this mean I hate eating Salad?

No, it does not; I enjoy eating salads.

2) I don鈥檛 like Radish or Cucumber-type Kimchi. Does this mean I hate Kimchi?

No, it does not; I enjoy eating the cabbage-type Kimchi.

(Try some cabbage Kimchi on a Hamburger, or even a Hot-Dog, sometime. It鈥檚 great-tasting!!)

3) I believe the Democrat Party is full of idiots, interested in their own agenda, instead of working for the people who voted for them. Does this mean I hate the United States and its form of Government?

No, it does not. I served my country 20+ years in the military. I continue serving my country as a retiree.

I have lived in various locations throughout South Korea for the past 13+ years after my retirement.

I have learned over the years living in South Korea that the country鈥檚 citizens can be blinded by Nationalism for their own country and 鈥渕y country can do no wrong鈥?way of thinking.

An (extreme?) example of Nationalism would be what Korean Drivers believe.

I mean no offense and I believe you may be shocked with this opinion of mine, but Korean Drivers

ARE NOT THE BEST DRIVERS IN THE WORLD!!,

This is definitely contrary to Nationalistic beliefs.

Yes, I have been told many times over the years that Korean Drivers are the best drivers in the world! But, seeing and believing are two different matters.

I must agree with Boom Blatz; I also believe I am entitled to bring 鈥渇oreigner eyes鈥?types of opinions as to what I see around the country of South Korea. I also believe I can offer a 鈥渇oreigner eyes鈥?common-sense solution to an issue.

Well I left Korea but I enjoyed living and working there. There are some cultural differences between the US and Korea. Generally, when I was in Korea and met up with other expats it was a chance to vent some frustration. You get a little bit more sympathy from other expats than you would from co-workers.

maybe they don't like their country any better. maybe they can make more $ in korea than at home. maybe they are wanted in their home country. maybe they really do like korea, but want it to be a better place. just because people complain about something, doesn't mean they hate it...else all parents would hate their kids!! :D if you don't ever mention the bad stuff, then how do folks know that improvement is needed? ^^

i like korea alot, but there are things in korea that i don't like. i will tell anyone both the good and bad (depending on my mood, i guess!)

How did part of this question turn into a topic about me? (I really didn't know about it until Blatz informed me.)
Anyway, G'day!!!, although I am not an expat residing in Korea, I can still tell you that those people are just giving honest opinions from real life experiences in this section. I hope you get to explore this section more - it will take some time, but I also hope it helps you better understand them as it did for me..

v-man: your b*tt.
