What do people from and who currently live in N. Korea feel about.........?

What do people from and/or have lived in S. Korea feel about...... the U.S. Soldiers, there?

In a nutshell...

It is complicated.

The North first. Of course the US is a villain. It doesn't really matter if troops are in the ROK or not, the DPRK is going to fuss about the US. The fact that troops are here just gives them a point to fuss over. If the troops were not here they would fuss over other things. A couple of little known facts, Kim Jong Il has stated that a US Troop presence is vital for a peaceful reunification. And, when the US started pulling troops out of the western corridor North Korea fussed about that. If the US troops pull back and are under less guns it is harder to use them as a negotiating tool.
Now, South Korea.
When I talk to South Koreans about the military situation on Pen I am often struck by how little they really know. Many South Koreans do not realize that their own army is strong enough to handle the defense of the Nation. As a matter of fact, they do handle the defense of the Nation. There are no US troops forward deployed anymore (meaning they are all sitting in garrison waiting for something to happen).
I have been here for many years. I arrived right after the two little girls got run over by the bridge layer and I have been here through the ROK Govt's clearing out of villages around Pyongtaek. I have seen Anti US demonstrations outside our gate on one side of the street while the Pro US demonstration was on the other side of the street.
I have run from violent hooligans while holding my daughter and been protected by other Koreans as the mob went by.
I have also seen a group of what appeared to be Russian men show up and break up a group of about 20 protestors. That was interesting.
Anyway, these days things have settled down, but all it takes is one incident. Since it is getting colder out now it will take a big incident. Koreans are not very dedicated in their protests. They prefer to do it in nice weather (there is actually a word for it, demo chul).
One interesting fact, Roh's election was largely based on his anti US stance. In this race there has not been a peep about the US.

i don't have any resentment nor do i hate them. i now the value of their presence in the region and have couple friends in the u.s. army too. but this pass couple day's i've had an online quarrel right here in A/Q with a dude that seem to be stationed out here. i've remarked about his behavior on this very site to his uncanny remarks and he seemed to have tooken it as a challenge of wits unarmed. this challenge i have no problem with if it were to have been a one to one verbal or in writting performance, but this dude and his supporters have made an i.d. in the exact image of mine and is going around perpetrating as me. i don't know how to make of it. cheap shot and a very racist performance this man of honor r putting forth. i wonder if they know that people r watching figureing who the new bobby p might be. sadly this kinds of act exist here and maybe out as well.
