African Safari?

My family (mother, father, 2 older teens) would like to go to an African Safari. Can anyone recommend a reputable company to use that is all inclusive? Also, other than the safari, what other interesting activities are there to do in an African safari?
Thanks!

I went on safari about 6 years ago (kenya) with Somak and they are still operating www.somak.com
I could not fault the vacation at all, it was superb.

Arrived in Nairobi and was met by a tour representitive and taken to the hotel to freshen up. Spent first night in Nairobi.

Following morning set off on the Safari in a small 8 passenger van (this was the van for the whole weeks safari).

Went to Samburu, Sweet Waters Lake Nakuru, Masai Mara

The drives between the various stops were long but the game drives (early morning and late afternoon) were out of this world.

Pay as much as you can for the safari as the first class lodges and tented camps are superb.

To cut down on travelling you could pick a safari that has flights between the different camps but that is more expensive or opt for a safari that guarentees a four-wheel drive SUV (this will be more comfortable than the typr of van I was in) Plus you would have the SUV to yourself and the driver.

When you arrive at the lodge or camp you will find it has everything that a top class hotel has. Restaurant, bar, pool, first class rooms. When not on a game drive, you can relax or check out some of the activities that the camp has. usually have entertainment and talks about the area and visits from the local tribes.
Also options to do a night-time game drive (highly recommended)
Also option to do balloon ride (highly recommended)

If you do a safari that is all by van or SUV it can be exhausting as you are up extremely early.

You will not be bored

finally think about adding a week at the beach after the Safari.

Hope this helps

I did a safari in December, I went with Prime Time in Kenya and they turned out to be pretty good. about 80 bucks a day. really safaris are just all about the animals but there are some longer safaris that include mountain climbing and such. In Kenya all of the safari companies are based in Nairobi. In Tanzania they are mostly all based in Arusha.

Try www.ecoafrica.com - they will help.

We went with TIm Trench Safaris. It was awesome - it is entirely personalized and you are never with a big tour group. He will take you wherever you want to go (in Kenya and surrounding areas) and there are a variety of price ranges. He is a naturalist and you will learn a lot. He is also a photographer, so you will get some awesome photos. We also had the opportunity to visit local villages and schools.

He also suggested visiting the coast after our safari. We flew to Malindi and spent a week on the beach, snorkelling and diving and relaxing. There are some historical sites around there as well.

It was the most amazing vacation of my life.
