0044 (which is what the +44 means)

followed by the UK area code BUT WITHOUT the initial 0 (zero)

So, for example, to call London, England (where many numbers begin 0208) you would dial

0044 208 and then the rest of the number

Another example, Stafford Borough Council in England is on 01785 619 000, so to dial this from anywhere in the world outside the UK you would dial

0044 1785 619 000
