I'm planning to go on a 5day tour package to japan, any suggestions on how much money should i bring ?

i'm going with my wife and daughter. i was just thinking, how much money shud we bring in case there are no credit card or traveller's cheque facilities. This would be for small shopping for souveniers of course and maybe food. would SIN$300 do?

I suggest you do not take travelers checks. They are hard to use in Japan.

You can use the credit card at major hotels, and major department stores and such.
I assume your tour package will include transportation and hotel already.

SIN? Singapore Dollars? (SGD) S$300 is not much for all 3 of you. I suggest if you can bring more, bring more. Maybe 600-1000 S$ if for you, your wife and daughter. If you don't use it all you can always change back what you don't use.

If you have a bank ATM card you can pull out from the following ATM in Japan:
Post Office ATM (There are over 10,000 post offices in Japan)

Seven - Eleven stores (There are over 20,000 stores in Japan)

Shinsei Bank ATM

Citibank ATM (there is more then 1, in fact there over a 15 in Tokyo alone) .

In Dec. 2006 I went there for six days. I did not go on a tour package, so I had to pay for hotel, food and souvenirs.
My hotel in Tokyo cost me $35 per night.
Traveler's cheques are extremely difficult to cash, and the only bank you can use to get money out of your bank account or credit card is called 'Citibank'. There is only one branch in Tokyo, Nagoya, Sapporo and Fukuoka. $100 US per person will be plenty., so it is advisable to exchange your currency to Japanese yen BEFORE you leave.

Shite is expensive so bring a lot

well, i guess that would depends on your budget, i think maybe you could just bring extra S$ so you can change your money there if you need to, and you can also find list of tour packages to Japan on 88db that suits your budget....

Have a nice holiday....
