Mallorca and Majorca, they both have main cities called Palma. They are 2 different places? How confusing!!

Can anyone clear this up for me??

Also would you recommend either?? Have you been?

Thanks

I am definately not a troll.
It was possibly a very dumb question but if people did not ask questions they might never learn so much.
I really thought they were 2 islands close to each other, and then discovered they had the same name and thought surely not.
I thought my geography was good, they say you learn something new every day!

easy mistake to make sweettra, the `ll` is the Spanish for `j` the island was named by the Romans and, as it is larger than it`s neighbour menorca (Latin for minor island), it was named mallorca (Latin for major island), so you have gained from your question and learned two things, one is the answer to your question and the second is that there are some nasty b******* on answers.
and yes i have been, there is something for eveyone on mallorca, nice beeches, quite lively in magaluf, more for families on the west coast.

what!?

one is spelt the english way!

one is spelt the spanish way!

on place, two names!

Mallorca and Majorca are the same island, just different spellings.

Its ok. has beaches, shops, bars, clubs, mountains etc

same place love xxxx nice beaches not that great and quite commercialized

I smell Troll.

Or just dumbness.

Do you?

I just dont believe this is a serious question I live in mallorca sorry I dont I live in majorca yes i HAVE BEEN TO BOTH PLACES and would you believe they are the same place

Mallorca is the Spanish spelling, Majorca is English.

Same place.

Firstly, Mallorca and Majorca is the same place. Majorca with the hard 'J' is the spelling used primarily by the English and Americans. Mallorca is the Spanish spelling used by the locals.

Palma is the capital of Mallorca, and is sometimes also referred to as Palma de Mallorca (Palma of Mallorca). Mallorca is a beautiful island with lots to offer all year round. If you are into hiking and bike trails, it is nicer to visit in the cooler months (Oct-Apr), but if you're into the beach, then go there in the summer.

I found this site to be a nice introduction to Mallorca and what the island has to offer: http://www.allthingsmallorca.com

i would recommend it if your the party kinda person its a lovely place too plenty enough to do xx
