Is there a tsunami warning system in place in Indian ocean? Yes, but its not accurate or reliable. Tsunami warning was issued not long after the recent earthquake in Sumatra, but few hours later the warning was withdrawn. Yes! of course! Yes there's tsunami alert system in Padang, West Sumatra. There are a series of centres from Japan to US and India but their warnings somehow never seemed to be taken seriously until after the December 2004 tsunami. |
