Indonesian Batik???

My friend gave me a Batik from Indonesian ... she is from Java, Indonesia. I would like to know how to wear my scarf. Also, any information on it would be lovely. I have searched it online but personal experience making, buying or wearing would be great! Thank you!

use it like you normally wear scarf.
there is a lot of style of Java batik, Solo and Jogya. also modern batik like obin. Pekalongan is the region of batik makers.
It's been used by the Royalty since long long time ago.
Batik also divide into 2, Tulis (written) or Printed (modern). Tulis is complicated thus far more expensive, the more color the more expensive. Also in the traditional custom there is certain pattern for certain occasion. Today, batik is so common by the Indonesian, every people could wear anything they like as long as they have the money (the batik tulis is quite expensive). one last thing, if you have the batik tulis (you can tell from the irregularity of the pattern, it will not gonna be exactly the same even if it's the same Drawing because of the habd made) you have to becareful when washing it, there could be residue of color that could damage your other fabric. so wash it with hands and mild detergent, do not mix with other clothing. have fun with your new Scarf.

"batik" in only refer to the kind of the clothes.
here in Indonesia, we have batik for pijamas, shirt, t-shirt, trousers, skirt, sarong, etc.
batik shirts are usually used for men in formal meetings.
mean while in javanese traditional costume, the women wear batik skirts.
the qualities and the motives (drawing) are varied, that makes the price varies too...

I think what your friend gave you was a batik scarf..
so, you can wear it like any other scarf.
