Bali Day Tour, is $35 a rip off?

Heading to Bali soon, my first time so am really excited. I inquired (travel agent) thru the net regarding day tour packages and I was quoted $35 for a day tour (private car and driver)...Just want to know if the price is reasonable cuz (I know) Bali as one of the cheapest tourist destinations in the world. For a backpacker like me, I dont consider $35 as cheap.

I've posted same question to lonely planet. Am gathering as much as info as I can.

Yes, I would consider that as an extremely reasonable price. I pay the same price as you did for one day tour (including gasoline) to almost every important region and main attraction in Bali 4 years ago.

then backpack it and quit whining

U're talking about USD 35, right?
A day tour or car rental? Because u said it's for private car and driver. Driving to how many places?

USD 35 is quite reasonable. If you rate it to Indonesian Rupiah, shall be around Rp 300thou - Rp 350thou. Gasoline included? If yes, whew, it's really really reasonable.

Well a car rental could be from 150 000 ruppiah or 16USD for a small uncomfortable car (small suzuki jeep).

So for a bigger one, with driver and petrol included it is still reasonable, not cheap, but ok.

Check Baliblog.com there might be some infos there.

If the driver and gasoline are including in $35 for a day tour, then it's a real good bargain. Just take it. Especially if you can share it with other 2 friends, then it would be just $12 per pax.

for a car and a driver? 35 dolls is fair, well depends on the car tho. but bali is so easy to master. for backpacker like you, better rent motor bike/car and explore yourself. leaflets and all tourist attraction map can be obtained free in most restaurant. just pick up bali advertisers and learn your way, i don't think you need that day tour, Bali is so big, you can't get much for day tour.
Bali hosts backpackers as well as BVLGARI and four seasons class. you will find lots of tourist traveling around with their bike and surf board. i think you'll do fine.
