I am Traveling to Bali should I get Travelers checks?

I am traveling to Bali from the States, should I have $USD to convert to Indonesian Rupah? Or should I get travelers checks and exchange them to Indonesian Rupah?

Bali doesn't really accept travellers cheques, and if you exchange them for local currency at the hotel, you will get a poor exchange rate. Take some cash. Your money is worth hundreds of times more than theirs, so you only need a few dollars here and there for things.

Eat outside of the hotel. Just ask your Bemo (taxi) driver to take you somewhere nice, or ask other tourists where they eat.

Also, the barter system is alive and well there, so when someone tells you their best price, it is NEVER their best price. What seems like a good deal to you will only get better as you keep saying "too much, too much".

NEVER buy anything at the first price they tell you.

And be prepared to get hassled as you walk along the streets... CONSTANTLY. This is part of Bali life, so don't get annoyed at the street sellers.

And for God's sake, DO NOT BUY ANY KIND OF DRUGS, no matter how safe it seems or how cheap they are. I'm not saying you're into drugs, but lots of people are, and the temptation is too much for them.

The drug rackets going on there are mostly all run by the police, who WILL be waiting further up that alleyway or even be the driver of the taxi.

Bali is a fantastic place, and you will have a great time.

Enjoy yourself !!
:)

Travelers checks are your best bet going anywhere, just exchange them when you get there and change them only as you need them, dont change them all...

What you need is just an ATM card with sufficient fund to withdraw.
Your ATM card must have international network logos on it for example: Alto, Cirrus, Plus, Visa, MasterCard, etc. Just look at the backside of your ATM card to find the logo.
Go to any ATM with network logo available on your card, then you can withdraw some cash in local currency with good exchange rate. Your bank probably charges you switching fee about $5 per withdrawal.

If u want to but if i were u well ill do it

If you take travelers checks then you need to take your passport with you to change the checks, but with cash you get a better rate and you dont need the passport. You just need to make sure that the notes dont have any defects and there should be no problems. Enjoy

when i go to bali i like to have some rupiah for when i first arrive ,traveler cheques and my visa card that way all my bases are covered . travelers cheques are good but will get lesser exchange rate with them, you have better security than cash also you only need photo copy of passport to cash them.Visa /mastercard handy, nice not to have to look around for best rate and less chance of getting riped off by money exchanger, will cost about $5aud to use, also the ATM can run out of money some times crash or eat you card, not good if this is you only way to get funds.

you better change your money into the customs exchane, since indonesian people aren't familiar with travellers' chwque. they need in cash not in cheque.
