Travelling to Bali .. advice?

I am thining of travelling to Bali next year for my honeymoon. However, having read lonelyplanets guide to Bali and the subsequent link that shows a high risk of terrorists attacks I was just wondering how true this is. Does anyone travel to Bali regularly and think its safe? Any advice on locations, places of interest, things to do, things to watch out for etc most welcome.

Thanks for your help.

Yes, I went for the 3rd time in February and am going again October. It is safe.
You would be very hard pressed to find a safer or more beautiful place to go.
The only thing I find scary are the roads, be careful! They do drive on the same side of the road as us and cars are cheap to hire, petrol is really, really cheap. Same as Taxis, very cheap always airconditioned. Don't stop for traffic police that try to wave you down, [they are only after money] they will not chase you they will just wait for the next idiot to stop.
The rest heaven on earth.
The south of the Island is very much touristy, the north not nearly as much. But I prefer north.
As in any country where earning 拢2 a day is considered "doing very well" be carefull not to flaunt your money. You are probably in more danger of violence in England/ Europe?America than Bali. The terrorists involved in the previous violence in Bali did not come from Bali they were outsiders. The Balinese people are extremely friendly and tolerant of different religions and culture. Some of the sales people can be over zealous, but on the whole they know not to push to hard because it scares people away. Go to Ubud, amazing, but be carefull of the monkeys in the monkey forest, they are thieving little beggars. Visit the hot springs in the north near Lovina [earlier the better] take your bathers and enjoy... the tomato soup at the restaurant there is marvellous. Don't miss the ceremonies and especially the dancing. Take mosquito repellant for between 6-7pm and loads of suncream.

There were some terrorist attacks there a while back but there haven't been any for a long time now.I think the Phillipine government are clamping down on them as they can't afford to lose the tourist industry. Enjoy yourselves, my wife and I want to go there too, we're just waiting for this terrorist threat to be well and truly over. Check out with the British Embassy/Consulate as to what they suggest. Good luck.

You can go to Kuta Area or Nusa Dua, both are in the ocean side. very nice and beautiful and close too water activities and shopping. if you want to go for honeymoon, you better find the 5 star hotel that offer lots of different packages for beauty treatment. the price is really worth it compare to the price that are being offered in the US.

Bali is safe now. if you want to visit Place of interest, you better join the city tour guide cause it will be cheaper and easier for you cause they will provide accomation and tour guice that will guide you from one place to another and you do not have to worry about language.....

things to do: shopping for local items, water activities. seight seeing, enjoy the beach and mountain...........

don't worry about that terrorist attack. I think it is safe now. I just got back from bali last week and I went to bali last year too. You'll love Bali. There's this spot, another beautiful beach instead of Kuta. There's also Nusa dua beach. that area is a good spot for honeymoon, the Niko hotel used to helding many events. So for honeymoon nusa dua is great too. But it would be a bit far to go to many places at Nusa dua. Another places is Kuta and Sanur beach. And you'll have a great time dining at jimbaran.

So don't worry about terrorist attack. It's safe now adn lots of tourist went there. Bali is a really beautiful island makes you wanna come back after you visit. And the people are friendly too.

Have a beautiful honeymoon ^^

My favourite place in Bali is in Kuta beach area.
You can stay at the Hard Rock Hotel which placed in front of the Kuta beach. You only need to walk for 1 minutes from Hotel to the beach.
You can also can go shopping around at the Kuta Square area, which only 5 minutes walking far.

or

If you want the quite place, you can choose Ubud.

Hi there...
everywhere has terrorist attack risk...but trust me, Bali local will not have that happen...they take extra care not to have any boom blast.
For honeymooner, I suggest you to go to Ubud, enjoy relaxing rice paddies in quiet villas/hotel. Recommended hotel in Ubud: Alila, Kupu-kupu barong, Pitamaha
There in Ubud, you can enjoy art shops, monkey forest and exotic bali village. You should try: Bebek Bengil (Dirty Duck), Bali Budha (organic food, they have pizza etc in menu) and Babi Guling (Grilled Pork).

Depending on your length of honeymoon, you can try to stay 2-3 days in Ubud and move to other area such as Seminyak (great shoppings and restaurants), Kuta/Legian ( center of nightlifes), or if you like watersport, go to Benoa area (Lots of hotels there too).

To enjoy private beach, you can stay in Nusa Dua. Recommended: Nusa Dua Beach Hotel, Ayodya, Novotel.

To enjoy branded hotel in cheap rate ( since you are in Indonesia): Ritz Carlton, Four Season, Bvlgari...

Bali in general is safe...just follow general travelling tips. Only remember, balinese worship lots of god....try to follow they rules whenever entering certain places such as temples i.e drink some holy water, put some rice on forhead, dont enter wen you're having your period (for female)

Phewww...lots of things huh....

I wish you a very romantic honeymoon in bali!!!!

I am a regular traveller to Bali. I have been there 9 times in the past 2 years and am going again in September. You have to realise that everywhere has the potential to be a terrorist target these days. Just becasue Bali has been hit before does not necessarily mean that it will be hit again, but it also doesnt mean that it wont be. NObody can predict a terror attack. I personally think it is safe, I also think that you would be very very unlucky to be in the exact place at the exact time if there were an attack. If you have never been before then I suggest staying somewhere such as nusa dua or seminyak, as legian or kuta may be a bit overwhelming at first. the people there are extremely friendly and love to chat with anyone. Go there, make new friends and have a fantastic time. You will love it.

Becareful of the people trying to sell you drugs on the street. Often there are police just down the block waiting for you to buy something. It can also be unpleasnt travelling alone since every taxi driver feel the need to try to bring you to a prostitute or sell you pot.

absolutely safe.
lots lots of things to see and do in Bali... internet is where you should research.... i can't tell you all coz i don't know what you like and dislike or how much you are planning to spent.
but one thing, a warning... if somebody offers you drugs, don't ! it's probably fake. if you into drugs like mushrooms, LSD, XTC , pot etc, you should get a local friend or get to know fellow tourist that knows.

hi im indonesian muslim but dont get me wrong iam no terrorist i do not belive what they belive which is wrong and is forbidden in the holy Quran. The chances of a terrorist plot in bali is always high its just when its goin to happen you will never know when its going to happen as indonesia police and army is not as good as western and other countrys in dectecting these matters cause of to much corruption and lack of knowladge and funding. my best bet is not to go to bali i love my country but the world these days is just not a freindly place no more.
