What part of Indy to relocate to?

I live in Ft. Wayne and my husband and I (and baby on the way!) are thinking about moving to Indy for better job ops. Which part/neighborhoods are safe, in a good school district, and have good neighborhoods for young families? We're looking to find a decent, newer-ish home for around 100-125k. Any suggestions? I'm sure the Carmel area is way more than we can afford. Thanks for your suggestions.

I moved to Indy from Fort Wayne back in 2000. I live in Avon on the west side. I would suggest either Hendricks County (Avon, Brownsburg, Plainfield, and even Pittsboro is good) Fishers, or Noblesville. They all have good schools, shopping and things to do for young families. I wouldn't live in Carmel anyway. But by living in Fishers, you'd be close to Carmel and also to Castleton. I've lived all over the place until about a year ago when my wife and I bought our first home in Avon. Trust me, there are a lot more opportunities in Indy than Fort Wayne. I lived in Fort Wayne for 25 years and don't miss it a bit other than family.

I live on the southeast-ish side in Franklin Township and it's a really nice area. Not too expensive and the school system is good. Perry Township is pretty good too and not too expensive. West side is ok, but it depends on where you live. I lived in Speedway for awhile and it was ok, but it's getting overrun by some crime from the area just a little north of there (38th street, Lafayette Rd.). On the east side, Irvington is an older, historic neighborhood, and it's nice, but it's pretty close to some crime areas (10th and Rural, Washington St. near Arlington). Also, be careful in the Lawrence township area unless you go a little north in that township. North side tends to be a little more expensive, but you can try Castleton, Fishers, Noblesville area. They're very nice, but traffic is rough there (I-69).

If you want to go just outside of Indy, try Greenwood, Southport, Camby, Wanamaker, Avon, Plainfield, Greenfield, Mt. Comfort, McCordsville.

Zionsville, Carmel, Fishers, Noblesville, Brownsburg, Avon, or Plainfield. I would not consider living in Indianapolis proper, or anywhere south or east.

Castelton is a very nice place, I really enjoy going over there when we visit Indy.
