Is Jamaica a dangerous place for two women traveling alone?

I've heard this is not a good ideal.....has anyone had any experience with the people and culture of this country?

I have never been there but I just got finished reading a book by a female missionary to Jamaica. It seems that certain areas are considered extremely dangerous. If you plan on going there, make sure you research the cities (or area of cities) that are considered 'safe'. There is much poverty on this island, with sewage running in streets , much crime, and corruption within the government.

take an all enclusive pakage to a hotel resort all your food and drink in cluded and stick to gided tours are the safest avoid places like kingston unles you are on a tour whatch your drinks all the time do not leave you drink to go to the rest room make sure some one looks after them when you are gone and not with the locals or you may find you on a different vacation .

I went there in 2005 with a girlfriend of mine. Actually, the locals are extremely nice to tourists. The only advice I can pass along with my recent experience is to be careful with the cab drivers that you choose to use, this advice was given to me prior to my traveling. We actually came across a really nice cab driver. You'll get locals from all directions trying to get your business from braids, cab rides, flea market products, etc. You should not have a problem at all.
