What qualification do i need to become health and safety adviser?

NEBOSH is good in the UK, but not very well known in the US. In the United States, I would recommend attempting to obtain either a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) qualification, or for construction Construction Site Safety Master (CSSM) through the National Center for Construction Education and Research (They develop curriculum used by Exxon-Mobile, US Army Corps of Engineers, etc.) In order to train through NCCER you must be certified through NCCER.

Many universities also offer degrees in Occupational Safety and Health.

Though these suggestions would definitely back up your resume, they are not required. Experience plus training would also be adequate. Keep in mind however that by offering safety and health advise you are assuming the liability that your consulting advise is correct. They employer is hiring you, or your employer, to offer expert advise regarding the health and safety of their employees.

If you have experience, you may be able to work for an employer, and receive on the job training (OJT) under a safety expert. I would recommend trying SafeTek USA. They are one of the largest in the United States, and also have locations around the world. They offer apprenticeships for those interested in safety consulting and are an NCCER provider.

You need an annoying nasally voice, a tweed jacket...and the ability to bore the **** off the universe.

Then you need an inexhaustible supply of tedious legal knowledge that if expressed...could call into danger your own health and safety should anyone be forced to listen to it in a confined space or in any situation considered to be above and beyond the call of any reasonable duty.

It is a fine career...it is a man's career....but don't expect to marry any woman who's name isn't Megan.

You need a NEBOSH Diploma. I have a NEBOSH Certificate and it is one step up from that. It stands for National Examining Board in Occupational Safety and Health.
