Scared to fly on a plane?

im flying sunday and im so scared of planes...im scared of them crashing, scared of turbulence, and everything having to do with flying..how do i overcome my fear :o( ive flown before and still been scared..please help!!

I also have somewhat of a fear of flying. As someone stated most crashes occur during takeoff and landing. I look for two things on takeoff. One I listen for the wheels to be taken back up, you can hear them if you listen. This lets me know, "ok the pilot seems to think everything is ok". Another I look for is the fasten seatbelt sign to go off. Sometimes, however they don't turn it off because the pilot believes there is going to be a bit of a bumpy ride. During turbulence. I have never heard of a plane going down because of turbulence. Occasionally you will hear of planes that became so turbulent people will hit there head on the ceiling of the plane, they don't crash. Just keep your belt on loosely in case you encounter this. From what I recall most crashes on landing are usually when the plane is on the ground already. I always try to think of it as "well if it crashes now, at least I'm on the ground". I also do some weird things on a plane to "give it good luck". People won't even notice you're doing them. But the good news is they keep the plane in the air!!! I'm still here. One is I take a cough drop on takeoff and landing. Another is I have to have a barf bag, if I don't I just secretly tell a stewdess I need one and kind of explain it's my good luck charm. I also have to have a bottle of water. I also read the safety pamphlet and note all the doors and if there is a life vest under my chair or if the seat cushion floats. I know they sound crazy but they work!!! I'm still her and have flown hundreds of times. Not sure how I ended up doing all these but I can tell you for certain if you follow them you will survive, and count yourself a hero for saving everyone else to--lol

if your over 21 get a drink from the airport lounge... Liquid Courage FTW.

take some relaxant
or fall asleep with some pill.

Try finding something to distract yourself while you fly, preferably something that you cannot ignore or block out.

ha, im scared of heights planes scare the sh*t out of me I won't get on anything that high unless I feel perfectly safe and that doesnt bother me so I say just do what I do don't ride in planes

More people die each year of a vending machine falling on them when they try to get their snack out than dieing in a plane crash. KNOWN FACT. It should make you feel alot safer. They wouldnt put 50 people in a plane if they thought it wasn't ging to take off and land safely!

the most likely thing for crashing is in the first 10 min. and in the last 10min. and then you can watch a movie...just dont be scared..its just your mind. read the booklet they have in case they do crash or whatver....millians of flights take off each year, and then think about how many crash? not very many, and its usually do to something.

the odds of anything like that happening arn't very likely.
i've never been on a plane so i don't know but
just stop thinking about it and focus your mine on good things.
imagine that you're driving in a car.
and you probably shouldn't look out the window.

and i'd probably bring something to do
like an an ipod to listen to or a book to read.
you know that stuff.

Pray you are seated next to Harrison Ford or Shia Lebouf or Johnny Depp or just close your eyes and fantasize about sitting next to your favorite male performer and imagine the conversation you would be having. Tongue-tied, or not, or just curious. Keep your mind active and you won't have time to worry.

There is nothing to be afraid of. Ask yourself this....when was the last time you heard of a commercial plane crashing? How many car crashes have you heard about just TODAY alone?? Plane crashes are very rare actually.

I think the more you fly, the more you will become used to it. I used to have white knuckles all the way to Denver from gripping the arm rests all the way. Then I would kiss terra firma when I arrived. lol. True story. So, once you do it several times and nothing bad happens, I think you will be AOK! Good luck!

Stop thinking about it. The more you scare yourself, the more you get scared.
Own your thoughts. Don't let them own you.

Mentally put the fear into a little box. Then visualize the box in the palm of your hand. You own that little thought. It has no use unless you let it out of the box again. When you are done using it, put it back into that little box.

The fear will never vanish, but it can be put to sleep instead of annoying you.
