Travellers Diarrhea?

Out of curiosity I am planning a trip in the next few months and was wondering how important is taking something pre-trip for Diarrhea. If I aviod the water i.e. ice cubes, vegitables and drinking the water (that is not bottled). Could I get away with something like Imodium or Pepto?

I am aiming for a place like Cuba or Mexico, one week, 4 star or above? Not sure if that info helps or not.

Don't take imodium. Take pepto. You're body is trying to expell toxins. Imodium will cause your body to stop expelling them all together. Pepto is the best thing to take (including perscription medications) for traveller's diahrea. Kaopetate is the same active ingredients as pepto (they used to make Kaopetate pills, which I can't find anymore, which is a shame because they were coated and travelled better than pepto pills, which fall apart too easily, IMHO).

Kaopeptate~it works wonders!!

Do not take Imodium, as that actually makes the infection worse by keeping the bacteria/parasites in your body. Diarrhea is your body's way of expelling bad things. You should take some Imodium with you in order to allow you to travel home without haveing bowel movements every ten minutes, but only then.

Go to the doc and ask for a script for Cipro. If you get diarrhea take it as ordered. That is what the travel docs recommend.

aww.lol you're so prepared! ..but umm I drink think not drinking water is a good idea because then you just might get constipated..

If you don't have a reason to feel you will get diarerah and are just taking precaution, then am sure Pepto should be fine....so keep drinking water and eating your regular food and such...have fun on your trip(such envy on my part...so cold here!)...Ciao!

I've always told all my friends that I do testimonials for Pepto-Bismol... in fact, I think they should pay me to do commercials! It pays to be careful and follow the rules to drink bottled water and drinks with no ice, etc... Having said that, we eat salads and brush our teeth with tap water and usually have no problems. But check out our page on Pepto-Bismol.

When we travel anywhere I always take Pepto-Bismol with us. My little hubby used to get sick everywhere... and once we started taking Pepto-Bismol as a preventative he has no problems. We try not to drink the water in some countries, but we eat everything everywhere. You can check our site for more details: http://www.mousetourstravels.com/pepto-b...

Happy travels... even if you don't travel the world... just remember that life is a journey... embrace and enjoy it! http://www.mousetourstravels.com
