Why am I terrofied of flying???

~ I am sooo very scared of flying in an airplane,,,any suggestions on how to lower my fear of flying???

I've found that most fear is based on lack of trust and what we don't understand. If you understood the physics, construction etc of flying you'd feel much safer. I know people that are scared stiff at the thought of flying, but because they trust me they are more than willing to go flying with me. To them, since they are my friends, they don't need to understand all the details because of their trust. Unfortunately you won't know your pilots and it would take me too long to explain all the comforting facts about flying. I could tell you that you are far more likely to die in a car crash on the way to the airport, but fear isn't rational.

Airline pilots are all very highly trained professionals. They go through regular training on how to deal with even the most catastrophic emergencies. Believe me, that nightmare you might have had about all the engines on fire in the middle of a thunderstorm and out of fuel... theyve trained for that. Airplanes are built with an incredible amount of backups and strength anyway. Even in the rare event that a system goes down there are backups in place ready to take over.

Sit away from the window near the wing if possible. Away from the window you won't be able to see the flight which will help calm you and a seat along the wing is least bothered by turbulance. If you feel the need see your doctor for somethign to take if it all gets to be too much, but don't take it unless you really feel the need.

idk, i hate planes too... 1 thing u can do is try to think of something else while on the plane

I would see a doctor about getting tranquilizers, or try flying with a friend. If nothing else, keep your mind occupied with music, a novel, puzzle books, or just try to sleep.

You probably don't want to die. The more often you fly the less scary it will be. Some reasons not to be scared are, if u do crash you wont be alive long enough to suffer. Also your chances of anything happening are very very very slim. Try to consider how many flights take off and land day after day all over the world, and then how few crashes or accidents you hear about. Just a couple a year right? Driving in car is much more dangerous

Don't sit near a window. Take a sleeping pill (if flight longer than 3 hours) and sleep through it. Read or watch movies and such.

Basically do something or sleep to keep your mind off the fact you're flying. Try not to think about flying. Look at it as a movie theatre or other public place and you're going in one door and out another to a different place.

I know someone who gets headaches flying and they sleep through long flights and do fine.

If you figure that out, let me know. I'm flying to Germany on Wednesday - it's only my 11th time in a plane, and every time has been scarier than the last!
