Halifax,canada: cozy cofee shops and tea houses?

ill be living in halifax soon and i was wondering what are the best coffee/tea houses , possibly in the downtown area?
im looking for something thats got good drinks and is quaint
, not formal/sleek at all, with a bit of an alternative feel.
somewhere you can go, get a latte and read a book on a couch or talk with some friends over coffee.
