What is mausoleum? |
What is mausoleum? Long, long ago, a rich or important family could by a piece of land in a cemetary and build like a shrine. It would be like a small building with capacity for 8 to 12 coffins to be placed inside. It was usually made of marble and with some nice marble statue outside indicating the name of the family. You still see them in most South American old cemetaries. Its a final resting plaace for those who for some reason do not wish to be buried underground. A mausoleum is a free-standing building constructed as a monument enclosing burial chamber of a deceased person or persons, like a tomb. its mouseleoum..if im not mistaken.. place to keep dead people ashes.. A tomb,a final resting place for a dead person that is constructed above ground, instead of being buried under ground A mausoleum (plural: mausolea) is an external free-standing building constructed as a monument enclosing the interment space or burial chamber of a deceased person or persons. A mausoleum may be considered a type of tomb or the tomb may be considered to be within the mausoleum. A Christian mausoleum sometimes includes a chapel. Gravesite for the rich and famous. In Guatemala it is a colorful, square building that encases a casket, or several family caskets. The family is responsible for, and takes pride in, building the mouseleoum for the deceased family member. Unlike funerals in the U.S., the family carries the casket from the persons house directly to the cemetery and buries, then constructs the mouseleoum for their loved one. |
