Traveling alone?

Hi,
During the summer I'm interested in traveling to Guadalajara. I'm seventeen years old, and I was wondering if it would be too risky to fly there by myself and have a relative pick me up in the Guadalajara airport. Is the security there good, or do I face high risks of something happening, ie, kidnapping? (Better to be safe than sorry). Or, would it be worth it to pay for unaccompanied minor service? I want to make an informed decision, so any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks for your time. :)

No problema senorita. You are perfectly safe flying alone. Meet at the immigration point. If they have not arrived to pick you up, do not leave on your own. If you have their address, you could catch a taxi directly to their residence and not have to worry about your safety but it would be better if they met you there.

If I am assuming right, you are a young lady. Now, understand that Mexico is a very safe country. Safer than the U.S. but everywhere you go guys will be hitting on you harder than they do in the U.S. This is the "Machismo" thing that they do.

Most local girls will not even look at or acknowledge a person who tries to whistle or talk with them. The Mexican men look at this as an opportunity when someone responds to their comments.

Just letting you know. Have fun on your trip.

come to papa!!

I live in Guadalajara & I see no problem if u have someone picking u up. Have a designated meeting area, like the Immigracion Desk, or the restaurant. Be sure to have the cel # of the person picking u up .

My suggestion is pick a spot where you will meet your relative.
(we always meet in the baggage area) If they have a cell phone,be sure to take that with you. At the airport when you depart exchange some US money for Guadalajara money so you can make a phone call or get a soda while you are waiting to get picked up.

I'm assuming you speak the language. Which would be a big help.
Kidnappers don't hang out at airports. I'm sure you will be very safe.

Have a great trip.

well...at least you are using your head...so i commend you on that. but honestly, don't worry!! guadalajara is a fantastic city without many of the problems that mexico city has. at first i thought you were taking the bus...and even that is pretty safe. but the airport??? of course! you will be TOTALLY fine. please, put your worries aside. if you don't speak the language, there is always the risk that you'll give too much money, or someone may try and charge you too much, or take your bag...but that happens everywhere. and it's highly unlikely. just go and wait for your relative, and have a great time!

and great advice from the person above me...this is true. don't even look twice, they won't persue...no worries.
