I planing to stay in northern western mexico for six month, it is practical to bring an car there?

Thats pretty vague. Largely depends where you are; in town, out on a beach, in the hills. Are there buses and taxis close by.

You car has to be paid for to bring it in and you need insurance

Yes you really need a car over there.Without a car its really difficult to move place to place.So if you are really planning to stay 6 months over there go prepare.

If its not a car model that you can buy spare partsin mexico, dont bring it. A friend of mine bring a car not available in mexico and it was a nightmare to repair it
