I love him dearly and follow him anywere just to not lose him. I have always loved the culture and Im scared i may not be as welcomed as i wanted to be. I guess cuz im going to another country. lol. no rude comments please. Anything is helpful. Gracias

Like i want to know everything. The holidays. food. people. everything. :) Gracias

Good for you!!, I麓m sure it will be a great experience for you to come to Mexico. I live in Guadalajara, which is in the same state as Atengo. I麓ve never been there but I know a lot of other small towns around here and they are nice.

Don麓t worry I麓m sure people will be very nice to you, and you will love living in a small place, I envy you 麓cause the city is driving me nuts.

I think it麓s very important for you to learn spanish ASAP, it doesn麓t matter if it麓s spanish from Spain 麓cause it麓s the same thing, there is no such thing as "Mexican language" the spaniards taught us, so it麓s pretty much the same spanish.
I say it麓s important because people in small towns doesn麓t usually speak english and you could have a hard time trying to talk to them.

If you need anything else just e-mail me ( I guess you know how to do it, just clic on my username , then clic on the link: public view of my profile, and there will be a link : email this person or something like that.)

I could help you with spanish if you want.

so your fiance wont teach you? youve got to know a fair amount of spanish buy now, obviously your hanging out with spanish speaking folk or i should say mexican speaking folks, there as different as american and british english which brings out another good point if you get spanish over the net it will be castillian spanish as in spain it wont be spanish as in mexican, youll still understand the basics but it is different,so with that said take some classes at your local community center or community college.that way even if your teacher is venezualen or even argentinean they will have a better grasp on the different ways to conjugate verbs and such then say an internet course or a course through cd's.

Believe me you'll get plenty of the culture once you are there. It might make more sense to go to school for a few months in Mexico for your Spanish. The average Mexican is not going to be able to help you much since most can't translate.

No idea where Atengo is .... Jalisco is a large state. I live on the coast.

It will be a shock and very different from up north

Hi. First of all, i am Mexican, live in Mexico city and would never ever in my life would move to a place like Atengo Jalisco, its such a small place that i would go crazy there, and after living in the us, even worst. In that place there is not a lot to do, so you better think this very thoroughly because if you don't have a good plan, in 6 months you would be desperate. But if you need help anyway understanding the language, or anything else, i am always on line.

Noooooo!! Trust me! There are better places in Mexico!
Why doesn麓t your fiance move with you instead?

I do not want to ruin the romanctic mood but have you seen what comes out if you google Atengo pics? It seems like it is a place in the middle of nowhere, with no infraestructure, very poor place. I honestly think you will get a big cultural shock after a few days. Ok, it could be not as bad if you guys are staying there for a few weeks or months but as I read.. you already have a house and everything! I know you will hate me for this, but trust me, this does not seem like a good place for you. Why do not you guys move to Guadalajara instead?

If you still want to go: Mexicans are really nice, kind people. They will welcome you and will try to communicate somehow. I seriously doubt there is someone who speaks English there.
Please, think twice!

I took a look at the link listed above. It was to page three to Google images. Take a look at page one. It looks like a pleasant town. The outskirts of most Mexican towns have a rough unfinished look to them. That includes the best places in Mexico. It seems that Karmen L's only knowledge of Atengo is from google photos. I would not let her comments get you down. She doesn't know you or Atengo, but says, "This doesn't seem like a good place for you."

You will be welcomed. Mexicans, especially those in smaller towns are generally friendly and will appreciate your efforts to speak Spanish. You could start taking class locally at an adult school. But what you learn in the class has to be put into use.

This book may provide you with some info on adapting:

The company puts out books on many countries including one called "Cultural Shock USA." They are aimed at helping people prepare for moving to another country.

P.S. It sounds to me like your fiance is a lucky guy. I hope he realizes it.
