What environmental concerns are affecting Greece right now?

I KEEP ASKING GREEKS WHAT ARE THEY DOING TO HELP THE ENVIRONMENT, AND MY BIGGEST CONCERN IS THE INDIFFERENCE OF THE PEOPLE...THEY JUST DONT CARE...VERY FEW GREEKS DO ANYTHING TO HELP....I STILL SEE GREEKS DRIVING AND THROWING LITTER FROM THEIR CARS, OR THESE DAMN PLASTIC BAGS EVERYWHERE....
BIG PROBLEMS, LITTLE CONCERN

How about the fact that you just had a major earthquake shake up your country(5.4 = 1st one & don't know what the 2nd one was) and power was totally out? The environmental concerns should be focused on emergency prep by govt,emergency personnel,and power restoration personnel. Many buildings in Greece suffered structural damages & country seemed unprepared for this type of disaster even though your country is in an active earthquake/volcano area of the world. I would concentrate your concerns around this disaster to help answer your question. There will be no easy answers to this problem. Guard Dog

Well, today it is snowing!

Usually the whole country goes berserk when it snows heavily, as we were not used to it.
From now on due to global environmental changes, we will see much more EXTREME weather all over the world. Burning hot and Polar temperatures.
Get ready to start using special electrical wires, Water pipes, etc etc etc etc. Doing some things helps..And we all know what it is we are supposed to be doing ...Don't we???

The most important environmental issue right now, is to restore in the best possible way the effects the land suffered from the last summer's devastating fires, which destroyed a major part of Greece, and are also doing that every year.

Reforestation is a process that the authorities are not taking very seriously and the lack of it is a draw back for everyone.

Then, as MC so delicately pictures, is the lack of environmental conscience people have in general.

Unfortunately the attitude here is - if it's not happening on YOUR doorstep and it's not affecting you directly - then ignore it - it's someone else's problem!
Sad but true!
Like MC I've argued with Greeks about litter throwing till I'm blue in the face! Someone even said to me that it was tourists! LMAO! Since when do you see tourists (apart from Greek) tie up plastic supermarket bags and leave them on the side of the road!?
These are the first basic steps for saving the enviroment - but these steps are not followed (should be taught in schools - but by whom - I've seen the teachers throw paper down) - how can you even think that anything else will be done!
