Halkidiki - anyone had a nice holiday there?

Thinking of going there in late May, looks to be a lovely part of Greece, any recomendations/warnings on locations/hotels/excursions.

I had many very nice holidays in Halkidiki. Halkidiki is large and to make sure you can visit all the nice places, hire a car.

The first peninsula Kassandra is the most crowded, although in May it will not be busy. On Kassandra you will find the most villages (Kallithea is the most famous), a lot of beautiful beaches, nightlife and clubbing is the most organized there.

The Sithonia peninsula I like the most. Nature is beautiful and the beaches and blue waters are breathtaking. There are many exotic beach bars. Neos Marmaras and Sarti are very nice villages to stay.

Recomended Excursions:
Boat cruise to Mount Athos and Ouranoupolis. Boat departs from Ormos Panagia (Sithonia),
Visit Thessaloniki. Beautiful city to spend a full day in center.

Hotels:
Depends what you are looking for. Superlux is Sani resort but you need a car to explore the rest of the area. For the rest I advise you to read the halkidiki hotel review sites.

Warnings: be careful when driving around. Greek drivers are mad sometimes.

went there on our honeymoon 31 years ago was very nice-
at the end of may - beware the spawning red jellyfish the sea goes red with them and you cant swim for days in the sea

Obviously most places have their places to go and not to go to, when I went there it was being built up a lot and become a lot more popular.

Possibly one of my favourite resorts that I have visted lately.

Just make sure you ask your guide! :-)

I absolutely loved it there, very good choice, indeed...You will not regret it. and I think it attracts a good class of tourists,
I honestly will be very surprised if you do not enjoy it.
