Greece question?

I am going to europe and one of my destination will be at Greece. I wanted to taste a different kind of cuisine while I'm there. Where should I get a really good and different food in Greece?

Am not sure exactly which part of Greece you'll be visiting. Greece has thousands of taverns. Taverns always serve traditional Greek food which is delicious. Each area has it's own type of food. For example, if you go to Northern Greece, the food is quite spicy due to the Turkish influence. They have excellent quality meats and pastries. Avoid the really touristy places. They tend to be very expensive. Try asking a local on any street corner. Most Greeks speak English and are very enthusiastic about helping out a tourist and giving their opinion. Ask them for a local tavern.

If you visit Athens, then you should try VIZANTINO (Byzantine). It is located in the old city of Athens called PLAKA which surrounds the base of the lovely Parthenon (Acropolis). Just ask anyone on the street and they will point you in the right direction. You can find many listings about this tavern in the Internet as it has come to be a favorite of many tourists.

The tavern serves excellent food, very clean, and the prices are surprisingly cheap considering that it is in a tourist area and serves hundreds of tourists a day. Service is excellent and the waiters speak fluent English. You can enjoy your meal while sitting outside on the cobble street watching the people go by, or inside, depending on the weather.

My suggestion is try anything you can get you hands on. If you don't like something, try something else. But dont miss out on baklava.

There is some great food on the islands if you go there (Mykonos, Santorini, etc). Fresh fish, squid, kebabs and salads. And I second the baklava recommendation! Can't stand the national drink ouzo though. But unless you have the chance of living with locals (which is the best way to get authentic food), just go to restaurants where you see a lot of Greek people. That's usually a sure sign of quality.
