Greeks, Are you planning your vacation holiday, and where are your going, or are you going to stay home..?

Where would you be going this year on vacation...and when

Interesting; Airpole; Do you feel that by living in a island, one does not need to go to a vacation, obviously, if you could afford it.

Obviously my question is posed to people WHO COULD AFFORD TO GO ON HOLIDAY...OR WISH THEY COULD GO SOMEWHERE, NOT ABOUT THE GREEK ECONOMY, WHICH WE ALL KNOW HOW IT IS IF WE ARE LIVING IN GREECE....

Plan???? Greeks my dear do not "plan" anything. The word "plan" does not belong neither to our vocabulary nor to our lifestyle.

Everything is done on impulse and at the latest possible moment.

You could ask this question to a German or a Brit and get a legitimate answer, but a Greek will tell you "how the hell do you want me to know what I'm going to do in the summer"

And that's why most Greeks complaint that Greeks are charged more than the rest of the Europeans when going on vacation in Greece.

Indeed if you book a hotel in February for August you'll get a much better price than going on an island and THEN trying to find an available room on August 15th, as most Greek do.

And that will partially answer the comment of the friend above on the economics of the whole issue.

Do you think many people have the luxury of having holidays under the strict economical reality people are facing?
Anyway for people like you and me that are staying in an island every day is a holiday I believe, if you consider that people in Athens and Thessaloniki have to spend hours in a car to get close to sea.
I'm further inland on the island and yet it takes me 5 minutes to get to the closest beach.

Kimon has it right. No long term planning for most Greeks and if they do, they never book reservations until the last moment.

Kimon is right. Greeks do not plan unless of course it is the annual trip to their village. But therein lies some of the charm and excitement of being in Greece. Spontaneity!
