What are the best, non-touristy things to see or do in Glasgow if you only have a day?

My husband and I will be visiting Scotland for 2 weeks for a friend's wedding and staying in St. Andrews. We would like to spend a day (early morning to late evening) in Glasgow and drive back. My question is - where is the best place to park our car so that we can tour the city and what should we take in? I have been there before but my husband has not, so I have a list of all the tourist traps (for him) - I am looking for great pubs, restaurants, and interesting local things to take in that you won't find in a guide book. Thanks!

Don't worry, I will be visiting many other places in Scotland... but my husband would like to see Glasgow.

Ignore the first reply; he/she is obviously a total idiot. Glasgow is now the most visited place in Scotland in by tourists.

I would park the car at Buchanan Galleries, its 拢7 for a full day parking plus its just a 5 minute walk from George Square, where all the tour buses depart from.

Here is a link with parking areas for you - http://www.glasgow.gov.uk/en/Residents/G...
I would recommend going to the Kelvingrove Art Galleries and the Barras market (only open at the weekends). There are so many pubs and restaurants to choose from that you won't be stuck. Depends what kind of food you like but I would say La Tasca on Renfield Street is a really nice place (http://www.latasca.co.uk/). Waxy O'Connors pub is worth a visit as it's so lovely inside - http://www.waxyoconnors.co.uk/glasgow/in...
Don't forget all the great shops we have - Buchanan Galleries, Princess Square and St.Enoch Centre to name but a few.
I really hope you and your husband have a great time in Glasgow.

I live very close to Glasgow but honestly can't understand why anyone would wish to visit such a place! It's a vile, horrendous dump. There are so many beautiful places in Scotland - give Glasgow a total miss. Edinburgh is beautiful and there are so many wonderful rural destinations as well.

Have a look at the link below...

You are wasting your time going to Glasgow for just 24 hours.
It will take longer than that to recover.
