Has anyone been to Eureka Springs AR?

My parents are thinking of moving there and would like my husband and I to move as well - we are in Denver they are in So Cal. I am always up for moving, but haven't been to Arkansas since I was really little and hardly remember it. How would a tatooed white girl with dreadlocks and her eclectic homeschooling family fare there?

Just curious :)

Thanks!

Actually, very well. I don't live in Eureka Springs, but have been there several times for weekend vacations, etc. The town is very friendly; very romantic; the town itself is old--everhone comes to see the downtown area. Very neat!

The town is full of extremely artsy, open minded people. Several times a year, there are advertised Diversity weekends where gay and lesbian couples are encouraged to socialize and meet for the weekend. As far as I know, there have never been any problems associated with the weekends (this area of the US is a little conservation when it comes to those relationships). There are different types of music and Jazz festivals; art festivals. A very open, creative, relaxing atmosphere.

The town has very few chain stores, restaurants and hotels. I think there's a McDonalds, Comfort Inn, Dollar General and that's about it for the chain stores. The town has mostly speciality/tourist type souvenier shops; the town has several bed and breakfasts and rental cabins. I think the nearest city is 20-25 miles away which would have the chain stores and restaurants.

In the winter, a lot of the businesses close because there is not a lot of businesses since you basically park and walk around the down town area.

Good luck!
