How many blocks are in a mile?

I live in LaGrande oregon.

I looked up LaGrande, OR on a map and measured the # of blocks in a mile. It seems to be 16 blocks per mile.

I don't know how it is in Oregon but in Manhattan, NY 20 city blocks are a mile.

In most well laid out cities, it's 8 blocks to the mile that is standard
