Best route from New York to Vegas.?

I may be moving to Vegas in Fall, and am planning my truck-trip ahead of time.

I have three options:
1) I-80 to I-70.
2) I-70.
3) I-40.

I would like to pick the most scenic route, with varying terrains of mountains, plains, desert, etc.

Any assistance?

September/October, with a moving truck. I am willing to take my time, and enjoy the trip, as I may never have the opportunity to make those memories again!

Thanks for all of your input. Any more opinions?

Need to know:
How big a truck
What if anything are you towing
How late in the Fall

OK Got it figured out.with a really interesting twist
You really should see the Rockies so I'm sending you over them .Understand that you will be crawling up them in a rental truck .Do not ride yoyr brakes on the way down -you will smoke them which will then render them useless.
Basic idea :Leave NYC & spend the night in Delaware Water Gap/Stroudsburg PA
Not having to mess w/ NYC traffic in the AM will just make your life a whole lot easier
Plan on 600 mile days -12-14 hours on the road
Day 1 > Stroudsburg PA> Toledo OH
Day 2 >Des Moines IA
Day 3 >Ft Morgan CO -make sure ti stop ther
Day 4 >Grand Junction CO -up and over the Rockies
The twist :
When you get to Grand Junction park your truck and rent a car for a 2 day road trip
The big U-haul dealer in Grand Junctions number is 970-241-5933.Give him a call when before you leave NYC and see if he's Ok w/ you leaving your truck there
Once the car is rented at the airport -GJT -
The routing looks like this -and yes I have driven every inch of it
GJT>Moab UT spend the night -explore Arches NP
Next day
MoabUT>Escalante UT -via Capitol Reef NP> Mt Carmel Junction UT-via Bryce NP>Hurricane UT -via Zion NP> Colorado City AZ>Lee's Ferry AZ-via Jacob Lake /N/Rim Grand Canyon National Park >GCN via Grand Canyon National Park
A nice spot to spend the night aside from GCNP-
-Xanterra Corp runs the hotels- is the Cameron trading post in cameron AZ
Next day
GCN >Mexican Hat UT via East Rim Drive GCNP
A big hunk of the Navajo Nation & Monument Valley
Then Mexican Hat UT>Cortez CO & Mesa verde NP & 4 Corners
then Durango CO >Telluride CO & back to GJT
via The Balck Canyon of The Gunnison NP
Pick up your truck and take I-70 to I-15 and make a left .However there is one really nice surprse left on the way into LAS
Enjoy it & see if you can get a convertable

i-40 is counter productive... you have to drive several hours south just to drive north again. And also, once you get into texas... its mostly desert! true, very pretty desert, but desert none the less.

I hear 80 to 10 you get mountains, and plains, and desert. I've never driven that though,... so i dunno. But i've done 40. It was pretty. I just dont believe in "backtracking", goin south to go north, is backtracking.

It all depends on how much time you have and what or how much you want to see on the way. Also, you have to consider the weather that you will be driving through.

the practical route would be i-70 or i-80 to i-15.
If I had the time I would take the east coast down i-95 through the Carolina's and then take i-20 or i-40 across. I would find stops in the south more interesting than the north or plains.

I also have had this plan to work out. I am thinking of moving from Ohio to Nevada. the shortest or most practical way for me is i-80 with stops in Iowa, Denver, Salt Lake.

GOOD LUCK AND HAVE FUN
